District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser said Monday that President Donald Trump used U.S. military forces for a "political stunt" last week against peaceful protesters to allow for a photo-op in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
"We saw in Washington, D.C., federal forces used in a political stunt to attack peaceful protests," Bowser said in an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
"We saw the American military moved around our country like toy soldiers to intimidate Americans," she said, adding that the U.S. military should never be used in that way and that Americans "across the country should be scared about that."
Addressing her decision to order the painting of the “Black Lives Matter” on the street leading to the White House on Friday, Bowser said that it's "a representation of an expression of our saying no, but also identifying and claiming a part of our city that had been taken over by federal forces to make it a place for healing, strategizing protest and redress, which is the greatest statement that we can make as Americans and black Americans who want to be recognized for human beings and have our lives matter."
Bowser's comments come a week after Trump ordered the U.S. Park Police and National Guard troops to forcefully disperse demonstrators who were peacefully protesting outside the White House. The crowd was sent running so that Trump could walk over to St. John’s Church for a photo-op in which he held up a Bible.
Late last week, Bowser asked that Trump withdraw "all extraordinary federal law enforcement and military presence" from D.C. On Sunday, Trump ordered the National Guard troops to begin withdrawing from the city.

Those crowds were asked to move back so the police could give Trump a one block buffer in all directions.
They didn’t comply. So much for peace. They had to be
forcefully moved back.
Trump can carry a Bible any place he likes. In this latest
insult from the media, it was wrong for him to go to the
church and carry a bible, but not one condemnation has been
made regarding the damage done to the church by rioters.

I would hope that the Mayor of the District of Columbia would not falsely claim that the demonstrators were peaceful. That is such an easily disprovable lie!
When you have over 150 peaceful law enforcement individuals injured by rocks, bottles, bricks, and more. Being peaceful when you have violent rioters maybe is what was foolish on the part of those attempting to defend the city.
Bowser should resign in disgrace and apologize for her cowardly and miserable failure to maintain law and order in the city she solemly pledged to protect.
The behavior of Mayor Bowser this past week is something to record and have at hand when the subject comes up next to make DC a state. The authority she has taken on with the city, like the painting of a political slogan on a city street, is the tip of an iceberg considering what she could do as a governor. It is time to protect our government and move govt business of any kind to appropriate states. It would disperse the lobbyist’s who sell lucrative access to any and all departments of govt. Leave DC as a town of historical significance with monuments and museums and any still remaining statues of great Americans.
