New York police union boss Mike O’Meara said politicians and the establishment media must stop treating police officers like “animals and thugs.”
O’Meara, president of the New York State Association of Police Benevolent Associations, lashed out at elected officials and the media for invoking fear and hatred towards police officers — specifically in the black American community.
Every year, O’Meara noted, police have about 375 million interactions with the public with “overwhelmingly positive responses.”
“But what we read in the papers all week is that in the black community, mothers are worried about their children getting home from school without being killed by a cop,” O’Meara said. “What world are we living in? That doesn’t happen. It does not happen.” He continued:
Our legislators are failing us. Our press is vilifying us. Stop treating us like animals and thugs and start treating us with some respect. That’s what we’re here today to say. We’ve been vilified. It’s disgusting … trying to make us embarrassed of our profession.
O’Meara denounced former Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin, charged with killing George Floyd last month, and said politicians and the media must stop equating the alleged murder with the actions of New York police officers.
“I am not Derek Chauvin. They are not him,” O’Meara said, pointing to police officers behind him. “He killed someone, we didn’t. We are restrained. We roundly reject what he did as disgusting. It’s not what we do.”
“Everybody’s trying to shame us — the legislators, the press. Everybody’s trying to shame us into being embarrassed about our profession,” O’Meara said. “You know what? This [police badge] isn’t stained by someone in Minneapolis. It’s still got a shine on it, and so do theirs.”

I personally am having a hard time when reading or seeing video’s of cops being not very nice to people who are complying with their orders.

Stop having kids like people buy TVs and try something really new and crazy...get an education..then a job..then date...then get engaged...then get married...then have a child

Arrest the bad cops. Then talk.
He should let it be known that his officers will not lift a finger for the media or politicians. Let’s see how those media figures and politicians feel about living in a police free zone.

The police were too damn nice in cities with looters, rioters and arsonists. Turning cops into pussies will lead to explosion of crime.
Stop preventing cops from doing what is necessary to stop rioting, looting and arson and then we can talk.
Folks here have knocked unions, and usually for good reason. But unions are often the only insider group willing to tell you the truth. So they can be quite valuable. This Breitbart article is evidence of that.
I want to follow what happens in those cities that either defunded or reduced their budget or outright disbanded them. But of course the MSM will go all gooey over how things are now nicer in those cities that don’t have ‘rogue’ cops beating up blacks.
I thought about this as far as Los Angeles, but similar ideas in large cities.
With all of the protests/riots —a simple idea:
Starting with Los Angeles
PUBLICLY Introduce a measure to be voted on in the next voting ballot, similarly to the following:
When police need to be sent out to protests and riots require the Mayor and council person of the area where the action is to be picked up and taken to the back of the troops, where it is safe. Also, the Chief, commander of that area, Captains shall wear the same gear and be at the front of the lines to show leadership. When it becomes a riot, constantly ask guidance from those civilians mentioned above. Protective League should determine what troubled areas should have these leaders present.
A little tweaking on this, of course.
Who would PUBLICLY be against this requirement?

In his next breath union boss Mike O’Meara said “oh BTW we endorse Biden for President” Well kidding for now, but you know it will be happening.
Time for some massive BLUE FLU to hit NYC....and to let the media & citizens learn the hard way what they THINK they want will work.
