The thing is that these folks cave because they do not want feral folks to burn down businesses and maim or kill people. They think it will go away if they bow and put out statements saying how horrid they are because they are not black. They have a rude awakening.

IMO the basis is that
advertising marketers want the most manipulable, least rational, people. And will pay for them.
So rational thought is forbidden from the media -which is our ‘public square’- by basic economics.
I remember when marketeers sold American products on TV, now they sell international products- but the media is still protected by the First Amendment.

Odd is it not that that book is 71 years old now. Orwell predicted the use of technology and media and state as one and the same with absolute precision.
