Asymptomatic spread of coronavirus is 'very rare,' WHO says

Coronavirus patients without symptoms aren't driving the spread of the virus, World Health Organization officials said Monday, casting doubt on concerns by some researchers that the disease could be difficult to contain due to asymptomatic infections.

Some people, particularly young and otherwise healthy individuals, who are infected by the coronavirus never develop symptoms or only develop mild symptoms. Others might not develop symptoms until days after they were actually infected.

Preliminary evidence from the earliest outbreaks indicated that the virus could spread from person-to-person contact, even if the carrier didn't have symptoms. But WHO officials now say that while asymptomatic spread can occur, it is not the main way it's being transmitted.

"From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual," Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of WHO's emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, said at a news briefing from the United Nations agency's Geneva headquarters. "It's very rare."

Government responses should focus on detecting and isolating infected people with symptoms, and tracking anyone who might have come into contact with them, Van Kerkhove said.

You can't put the paste back into the tube. Here in PA., we're at "green" where masks are NO LONGER an issue, YET .... many businesses (and even my church) demand a mask going in and a mask going out, but you can take it off once inside ..... thus, my meme this morning;

Asked about three months of confining the healthy to their homes, WHO broke out their best Emily Litella impression and said “Never mind!”

FYI, that was Monday; yesterday, they backtracked on the report.

Both have been posted and commented on FR.

I read the other day that WHO is going to scare everyone about a second wave (just in time for the mail-in vote narrative) and then this news came out about rare spreading through asymptomatic exposure. Then I noticed yesterday that this is being walked back. I guess they got their wires crossed.

As it turns out, the highly paid epidemiological exspurts are not.

WHO is basically claiming they were drunk when they said that.

“Drunk when they said that”

Yeah, maybe a “bizarro world” kind of drunk”.
It’s more likely finally, after three months of blindly spreading propaganda, they sobered up and told the truth for once.

It is utterly preposterous how much WHO, CDC, etc swing back and forth on so many issues on this virus. And how little practical information has been studied. STFU until you have cold, hard facts like:

1) What is the minimum infectious dose and how long does it remain infectious in inside and outside air, on skin, on bills, coins, credit cards, clothes, food, etc?

2) What masks, if any, work to keep the virus in/out?

3) Are there certain meds (i.e. ace inhibitors) that seem to make one more prone to the virus?

So most people got the virus from someone else who had symptoms of the disease? With all the hysteria we’ve been through, I find it hard to believe that anyone would come within ten feet of anyone else who appeared ill.

But that’s how every other virus supposedly spread throughout all of world history, until (or so we were told) the advent of the novel Coronavirus.

Didn’t they walk this back today? So asymptomatics (or, my theroy, people with mild symptoms they aren’t recognizing) are contagious again?

The “independent fact checkers” at Facebook are now blocking this article.
