While one alderman wept, others grew angry with the mayor, demanding to know what her strategy was to stop the violence that began in earnest late Saturday.
The call provides a snapshot into the citys response as of midday on Sunday to the most widespread and damaging unrest since the uprising after the murder of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the police riots after the Democratic National Convention in 1968.
The recording begins with Ald. Michelle Harris (8th Ward) wondering how she could convince businesses like Walmart and CVS to rebuild on the South Side after the destruction.
Its like, what are we going to have left in our community? Harris asks her colleagues before answering herself. Nothing.
The Chicago City Councils Black Caucus criticized Lightfoots decision to use 375 members of the Illinois National Guard to block off the Loop and the central business district starting Sunday morning, making business corridors on the South and West sides an easy target for looters and criminals because they did not have the same level of protection.

Ha ha, I was living in Philadelphia when MOVE happened, less than a mile from the fire. Educate yourself.

Chicago’s half hellhole now - but that part is expanding. And it won’t be long before all parts of Chicago are thug controlled. Smart people will start moving out now while they can still get fairly good prices for their homes.

The only people left will be those too poor to afford to get out. Many will be seniors who will be left defenseless. What to go, liberals.
LOL, there should be a quiz...Post several pictures and have people decide if they are looking at Modadishu or an American city (Detroit, Baltimore, ST. Louis, New Orleans)
They are going to have left in their communities exactly what they have been working for the last 50 years. You made your bed. now sleep in it.
Now, Modadishu probably looks better than a lot of BLM Americanstan cities!
That's what's happened in many other cities that had riots in the past. Smart people got out before violence skyrocketed and property values tanked.
The people left couldn't sell for enough to get out and - sadly became prisoners in their own homes.
How long until the mob decides there's not much left in the burning stores and decided to come kick in citizen's doors? Call the police and a social worker will answer and ask if you're a racists for complaining.. that you SHOULD give what you have to the thugs...
During the ‘68 Riots there were several High Rise Government Housing projects that were adjacent to the Eisenhower Expressway, several of the residents set up sniper nests from their apartment windows and took pot shots at the cars on the Expressway. Luckily they were not good shots at all and no one was injured. The Chicago police went into the buildings and ended that nonsense in short order. Different times.
No policemen, thank goodness.

Not a single taxpayer will be left...
Thats par for the course, and we are forced to pay for this crap.

Should have thought about that before.

VERY interesting article!
Their actual words in a conference call!
Strongly suggests the aldermen were crying out for a Trump-like response to the carnage, and Lightloafer was at least feigning empathy / helplessness.
But despite recognizing the real need for police /NG force, the unwillingness to be seen as aligning with Trump’s law & order stance trumps any desire to actually protect their city!
This is an important nuance!
