Now I feel stupid. SA is somewhat dark. But other countries in ME are lighter than I would expect.

RE: There are 60,000 in the U.S.
How do they define slavery in the U.S.?
It has been abolished and made illegal by the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
If they find any, the “owner” of the slave should be jailed.

300 million indentured tax slaves in the U.S. who are they kidding.
To: 11th_VA
The United States, per capita, has a very low rate of slavery: just 0.02 percent, or one in every 5,000 people. But that adds up to a lot: an estimated 60,000 slaves, right here in America.Bullshit.

Yeah ... something not quite right here. There are plenty of Philippine and Indian foreign workers in Saudi Arabia who are for all practical purposes slaves.

It depends largely on how you define slavery.
There are more than you think here in the U.S. mostly in immigrant (legal and illegal) communities. The “slavers” are almost always of the same ethnicity as the victims that owe them years of labor to pay for being smuggled into the U.S. or they owe debts in their native country that they repay by so many years of unpaid labor here.
I don’t think the 60k figure is unreasonable.

Where in the US? Lets be specific with such BS.
The article states that they assume all prostitutes are "slaves". From the article: "Not all sex workers or "prostitutes" are slaves, of course; plenty have chosen the work voluntarily and can leave it freely. But...many are coerced into participating at a young age and gradually shifted into a life that very much resembles slavery."
So they simply assume many prostitutes are living a life "that very much resembles slavery". They also claim illegal aliens who came into this country live like slaves because their employers threaten to turn them in to the police if they don't keep working. In other words, they're making this nonsense up.

Did anybody read the story?
I did, but closed it too quickly & paywall locked me out.
The part about the US clearly says “estimated” and I think it used miscalculated math.
To: 11th_VA
Other sites attribute those 60,000 to the sex trade.

How do they define slavery in the U.S.? The article defines it as prostitution, which is a very overly-expansive view of slavery...
