On Wednesday, Magic: The Gathering publisher Wizards of the Coast took unprecedented measures to remove racist cards from its game. Seven cards in all, dating back to 1994, are now banned from play. Their images will also being removed from the games official online database.
The events of the past weeks and the ongoing conversation about how we can better support people of color have caused us to examine ourselves, our actions, and our inactions, Wizards said in a statement. We appreciate everyone helping us to recognize when we fall short. We should have been better, we can be better, and we will be better.
The list of now-banned cards is: Invoke Prejudice, Cleanse, Stone-Throwing Devils, Pradesh Gypsies, Jihad, Imprison, and Crusade.
One card in particular, Invoke Prejudice, was singled out. It shows a hooded executioner with a black axe. If opponent casts a Summon spell that does not match the color of one of the creatures under your control, that spell is countered, says the card. It effectively kills off creatures that dont look like the creatures already on the table.

Magic: The Wussification
That means the Dungeon and Dragon books are going to be rewritten.
OMG.
None - NONE of the cards supports racism.
WOTC has always been woke and wouldve squished it immediately.
This is virtue signaling so they can make themselves look good.
The HQ for Wizards of the Coast is located in Renton, WA. Renton is just to the south of...Seattle.
Need I say more?
LOL, I have every one of those cards. They just doubled in price, I’m sure.
I play with my son and his teenage friends.
I never played the game, but I did know some people in College who were pretty active in playing this game. Will new card sets come with a Little Red Book?
“Racist card” = a card that shows a black person???
So a depiction of a black person is “racist”?
Nobody knows what “racist” is or means and it doesn’t matter. We live in a world that is getting more stupid all the time.
Well, that makes sense because the Left basically runs the world’s show and the Delusional Lying Left is about as stupid as you can get.
Seven cards now suddenly have had their value go up.
For anyone into AD&D- keep your old books and use them. Other than all black creatures destroyed on one of the cards. There isnt anything remotely racist on any of those. They refer to color but nothing specific. I guess blue dragons are racist?
I know literally nothing about Magic: The Gathering, but it sure smells like B.S.
I played a bit years ago. Haven’t touched it in years and only remember the ones everyone knows like Forest, Black Lotus, etc.
Good gravy.
I just went to the MTG: Salvation forums, and there’s nothing about this there. That’s the biggest Magic website around. I’m calling hoax based on that, plus there are way more cards than just those 7 that could be considered racist.
In fact, the entire game is based on 5 different colors that are pitted against one another. Most of the original cards designed by Richard Garfield were designed to hate on the other colors.
Had to check carefully to make sure this wasn’t a joke
But really it is a joke, this whole discussion topic is a joke. Our civilization is going backwards
Its not a hoax: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/depictions-racism-magic-2020-06-10
Well that’s a shame. A real shame, not the Seinfeld that’s a shame. Like I said too, there’s no way they can stop at 7 cards. Think of all the cards with text that begins with: Destroy Black...
Or this? They're PINK!
I think the latter was banned because Muslims throw stones at "Satan" during the Hajj.
Invoke Prejudice artwork resembles KKK costumes is my guess.
The whole game is a violent game of conquer.
On the other hand, every few months they ban a set of cards, and create all new cards, in part because people find ways to use the specific cards that make decks hard to beat, and in part because you can’t make money on cardboard unless you keep giving people reasons to buy new cardboard.
I’ll have to ask my son if any of these 7 cards are important to any of his decks, or if he thinks anybody will miss them.
