Atlanta police shooting death of Rayshard Brooks roils city

Atlanta police shot and killed a black man late Friday night following a struggle outside a Wendy’s restaurant on the city’s southside, in an incident that inflamed tensions over police use of force and racial injustice that have roiled Atlanta and cities across the nation since the Memorial Day death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis.

Video of the shooting of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks, who had allegedly fallen asleep in his car and blocked the restaurant’s drive-through, went viral across social media. Protesters marching for a third weekend in Atlanta for justice for Floyd and other black men and women killed by police quickly demanded a full investigation Saturday of the Brooks shooting, and the Georgia NAACP called for the termination of Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields.

Cops were doing everything right. Even got perp to blow the breathalyzer to prove he was drunk Then perp woke up enough to figure he couldn’t stand the arrest and went bezerk. I haven’t heard anything about his past record, but bet he knew he wouldn’t receive just a slap on the wrist. Speaking as a survivor of a potentially lethal interaction with .343 blood alcohol I have little sympathy for those endeavoring vehicular homicide. Alert defensive driving saved me, but not either car. He was already suspended from a prior DUI, served a few months and was arrested for his third DUI 5 months later. Current policy is NOT adequately keeping the problem drunks off the roads. This way isn’t MY choice for how to accomplish that, but de facto it was HIS choice.

Great! Shoot rioters or other violent criminals dead every night. It’s the only way to winnow down their numbers and convince them violence is a poor way to save their little lives. Feckless liberals surely can’t.

Thats what you see.

He was being arrested for DUI and went ballistic.

Don’t be wasted at a Wendy’s drive thru and then get in a fight with the cops.

Steal their weapons in a fight and turn on them might get ugly.

Lesson for the idiots of the world.

The past couple of weeks there’s been a popular graphic posted on the ‘net scores of times saying, like “If you don’t do illegal stuff the cops will leave you alone.”

Unfortunately for him, this man chose poorly several times and in escalating fashion.

Tell us why the suspect snatched the taser,

Because the cop was (rightfully) shocking the shit out of him, or about to, and he didn’t like it.

....and why he discharged the taser aimed at a cop.

Because he was trying to get away,

I think the guy was an idiot in how he handled things.

I don’t think he deserved to die because I don’t think he threatened anyone’s life.

Hmmm!

Rule No.1 if you want to live long: NEVER EVER PISS OFF a guy with a gun.

Rule No. 2: NEVER EVER get into a fight with a police officer and steal his taser.

Rule No. 3: NEVER EVER run away, then turn and shoot said taser at police officer who still has a gun.

IF you are stupid enough to get into a fight with a police officer, steal his taser, run away and then turn around aim said taser at him and then shoot said taser, you will most likely you end up dead.

I go by a case by case. The case of Daniel shaver was a clear case of abuse of power that lead to his death. The cop wasn't even charged for any wrong doing. I have a link to the shooting in my last post.
Explain that please.

"When the police use tasers it should be considered lethal force?"

That's a good point. But if a man uses physical violence against police to evade arrest (or simply to hurt them) and steals a taser from a policeman, there's good reason to believe that the man might use the taser to obtain a policeman's pistol and fire it at him.

Imagine being armed with a pistol and a taser. Then imagine someone who has already attacked you once taking the taser away from you and acting like he's going to use the taser on you. Do you see what I mean? The taser would enable a violent criminal to tase, disarm and shoot a cop, and we don't want that to happen.

Some of the worst of violent criminals often use the tactic of running, turning to fight, running again and so on. Do you see? Home invaders have used the same tactic against their intended victims. They try to kill their victims, then run, then turn to try to kill again. That's a lethal pattern that must and will be stopped, one way or another.

The police, on average, are far more merciful than enraged mobs of vigilantes. The radical left has chosen a future of justice administered by vigilantes.

"Again, he is ON FOOT! Read."

Again read your own statement:

"“So what? He was just a drunk. Arrest him tomorrow.”"

He was INITIALLY BEHIND THE WHEEL when the police arrived.
Right?
Hello?
He wasn't running anywhere, when the police arrived.
Right?
Unless you think he was sober when he arrived in the drive through, then got drunk on the spot...he DROVE AROUND DRUNK, as in DUI, then passed out DRUNK in his vehicle in PUBLIC...behind the wheel.
Got it?

You think the police should arrive, then STAND AROUND AND WAIT until the DRUNK wakes up? Then arrest him? You can't possibly think that's a reasonable thing to do.

Reckless, as I said.

>He is under the influence and making poor decisions

And he most likely chose to put himself in that condition. Making poor decisions, and their consequences, is a consequence of his past choices to get drunk and not ensure he wouldn't drive.

I’d love to see some documented examples of this behavior. Can you provide some examples?

Since a few more of them have shown up, I advise again to not feed the trolls.

They delight in sucking reasonable folk into pointless argument.

“So what? Arrest him tomorrow.”

Where?
You really think this jackass was going to go home, sleep it off and turn himself in in the morning?

No. He would have tased the cop, taken their service weapon and used it to jack a car somewhere. Maybe killing the mom of three who was on her way home and just happened to be driving the car he wanted.
Then he would have disappeared in the hood where he would have been hidden by every person there.
It would likely be years before this feral jackass would be taken down and who knows how many crimes of varying lethality he would have committed by then.

Sounds like you’re willing to tolerate a lot of lawlessness.

The criminal running from the police had a stolen taser in his hand which he turned and aimed at the cop. There. I talked about the criminal.
