In your opinion is it safe to visit Paris?

I would not know. I haven’t been there since before Notre Dame was destroyed.

At that time, one just had to avoid the Muslim neighborhoods. For years, it has been a bit risky to take the RER train from Charles de Gaulle into the downtown area. At least one of the stations was in a nogo area. One of our compatriots got robbed right on the train.

The nogo areas were generally outside the peripherique which was the highway surrounding the city.

The train station at La Defense, also outside the peripherique, has been a problem in the evenings for 20 years. When we were first warned that it was dicey, a friend of mine and I ignored the warning and wound up there waiting for a train in the evening. We became concerned when we noticed that the police were patrolling in groups of 6 with two guard dogs and two machine guns. This happened over 20 years ago. It is not likely to be better, now.
