Supreme Court denies petition to hear 'sanctuary' case

The Supreme Court on Monday denied a request by the Trump administration to review California's so-called sanctuary laws, which limit cooperation between state and local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.

Two justices, conservatives Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, were listed by the court as having been in favor of reviewing the law, which was upheld last year by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

With the denial, the Supreme Court let stand the lower court's resolution in favor of three California sanctuary laws, which limited law enforcement cooperation on immigration and banned state and local authorities from using their resources to enforce federal immigration laws.

At a 2018 round table on immigration, President Trump said the California legislation "provides safe harbor to some of the most vicious and violent offenders on Earth, like MS-13 gang members, putting innocent men, women, and children at the mercy of these sadistic criminals."

That same year, the administration challenged the laws in court, leading to the 9th Circuit decision.

California authorities defended the laws, saying they were necessary to preserve the privacy of citizens and noncitizens alike and that they strengthened cooperation between communities and local law enforcement.

Time for a Second Amendment Sanctuary state where the NFA 1934, GCA 1968 and FOPA 1986 are null and void.

the whole system is rigged against conservatives. No matter how many judges we appoint, we always lose in the end.

There has been a solid conservative majority on the court my entire life (well not conservative, but appointed by Republicans). And it hasn’t helped one iota.

How much did the current rioting and looting effect the courts unwillingness to review the case?

The long-range trajectory of the US doesn't look promising.

Every law, every rule, every tradition, every standard is being undermined by leftist ideology.

In a couple decades every law will be re-written and every standard and tradition will be eliminated.

Then make a Federal Law giving ICE way more power and make the leftists take THAT to the Supreme Court. Let’s see if those worthless wankers agree to look at the case THEN.

Well the Bushes did something right. They nominated Thomas and Alito. Praying that Trump gets another term.

One can quibble about this chart. I think these current liberal justices and their leanings are understated on the chart. Nevertheless I found it interesting.

We are not voting our way our of this, and WAR is coming.

Roberts is now fully gone. Earlyon before Obamacare Tax he invented, there was a glimmer of hope, now gone. Amy Barrett makes a difference.
The SCOTUS has abandoned and pretense ofbeing the firm backstop to the craziness cooked up by our legislature, which it was designed to do.
So much of todays craziness wouldn’t be upon us had the court been faithful to it’s mission in the days of FDR.

I am beginning to believe that the republicans that picked the likes of Roberts and Gorsuch are a bunch of complete fools. Who recommended Gorsuch for the court? I said back then that he was suspect and we could not depend on him to be a true conservative, so there should not be anyone surprised that he sided with the liberals on the gay issue.

” local authorities from using their resources to enforce federal immigration laws. “

Guess we can all pick and choose which laws we wish to abide by.

We already have them. You are late to the game. The difference is that the 2nd amendment sanctuary towns are just saying the Constitution trumps any law.. the Sanctuary City deal is States can negate Federal law. This will open up a can of worms

How come nobody is talking about what they actually ruled on that had deep consequences to religion.

I want a state where NFA 1934, GCA 1968 and FOPA 1986 are null and void.

Full autos for everyone.
