Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) has apologized after video surfaced of him comparing himself and elected officials to slaves on ships, comments he appeared to make six years ago while he was governor.
"Taking a look at this video from six years ago, I recognize that my comments were painful. I did not intend them to be. I offer my deepest apologies," Hickenlooper, who is running for Senate, said in a statement released by his campaign on Monday.
The congressional hopeful's apology came after Tay Anderson, a member of the Denver School Board, on Monday tweeted a video of Hickenlooper making the comparison.
"If I was to describe a scheduler, a political scheduler, imagine an ancient slave ship with the guy with the whip, and you're rowing," Hickenlooper said to laughter in the video. "We elected officials are the ones that are rowing, and they have nothing but hard, often thankless things to do."

Lickenpooper and the almost all of remaining politicians are turning into cancerous tumors in this Republic.
Just what you’d expect a white supremacist to say.
Another idiot Democrat
Gestapo seeks anyone and everyone who departs from the goose step, no matter how long ago.
On your knees so your people know you mean it. It’s the only way.
Sorry, Hickenlooper, not good enough. You’re going to have to resign and......wait, you’re a Democrat?....oh....haaaaa!.....just bustin’ your chops, John. You’re good, you’re good.
He was trying to be funny I guess and the comment tells us how he views government.
I don’t see politicians as rowers. I see the taxpayers as rowers.
I'm unafilliated, so I got two ballots. I only marked Romanoff. He's an open Marxist, Chickenpooper, whatever.
Either way, smarmy-ass Gardner, who was my Rep before becoming Senator, won't be there much longer.
I think I despise him more than I do Chickenpooper.
The sad thing is, his comments made sense, and were not pro-slavery, or even dealing with the slave trade.
He was referencing the concept that ancient ships had slaves who did the rowing.
Definitely, he had the analogy backwards.
White male politicians might want to consider alternate careers.
“The Jerk: I Was Born a Poor Black Child (Bale of Cotton)”
Gov Chicken Pooper even looks something like Steve Martin in ‘The Jerk’.
Imagine an ancient slave ship with the guy with the whip, and you’re ***rowing***.
Wonder what his report card for history was

Probably pretty good if he was talking about Muslim slave galleys in the Mediterranean, where huge numbers of European slaves were used
Bet has no clue of what Muslim slave galley were.
“I was born a poor black child.” LMAO
