Those families are held hostage to proper behaviour in America. Some Chinese will tell you that but not the ones with university or science or tech jobs. Americans mostly don’t understand the importance of family in China and in non-Moslem Asia generally. Christians are less susceptible but the percentage of those is tiny. Every single cop does not have relatives in a place that requires information from him or his relatives will suffer.

Actually saying Chinese in America with family in China are necessarily spies is not the same as saying all white cops are racist.

It is saying that the CCP has leverage that they use on anyone they are interested in here. In essence, somewhere between potential and likely spies if they are in any position of interest.

Unfortunately, that somewhat more nuanced take is probably accurate.
