I don’t think it’s Briar Rabbit. It’s Br’er (Brother) Rabbit. FWIW.
See Article History
Brer Rabbit, trickster figure originating in African folklore and transmitted by African slaves to the New World, where it acquired attributes of similar native American tricksters (see trickster tale); Brer, or Brother, Rabbit was popularized in the United States in the stories of Joel Chandler Harris (18481908). The characters adventures embody an idea considered to be a universal creation among oppressed peoplesthat a small, weak, but ingenious force can overcome a larger, stronger, but dull-witted power. Brer Rabbit continually outsmarts his bigger animal associates, Brer Fox, Brer Wolf, and Brer Bear.
Im old. Dont need to read the article. I had all the books when I was a small kid. Got tossed over the years, multiple moves, etc. Wish I still had them.
Great information to learn. Unfortunately, we will have to pretend it never happened. Away with all history and we are doomed to repeat it. It never happened. Slavery never happened. In fact, blacks never were slaves and no white person is privileged. How can they be? No slaves. We are now equal. (Except for the IQ thing.) Right???
