Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck for 7:46, not 8:46, prosecutors say

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota prosecutors acknowledged Wednesday that a Minneapolis police officer had his knee on the neck of George Floyd for 7 minutes, 46 seconds — not the 8:46 that has become a symbol of police brutality — but said the one-minute error would have no impact on the criminal case against four officers.

The initial May 29 complaint alleges Derek Chauvin “had his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total. Two minutes and 53 seconds of this was after Mr. Floyd was non-responsive.” But timestamps cited in the document’s description of the incident, much of which is caught on video, showed Chauvin had his knee on Floyd for 7 minutes, 46 seconds, including 1 minute, 53 seconds after Floyd appeared to stop breathing.

“These kinds of technical matters can be handled in future amendments to the criminal complaint if other reasons make it necessary to amend the complaint between now and any trials,” Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman’s office said in a statement. “The one-minute error made no difference in the decision to charge nor in the continuing legal hearings.”

The media gets paid to sell a ‘narrative’.
That’s what it’s advertisers pay for.

Doesn’t matter if it’s true

LOL like 1 minute less makes any differance!

Maybe if they made a mistake of 1:86 & it was really only :86 but NOT 7 MINUTES & 46 SECONDS!!! 😆 🤣

“Doesn’t matter if it’s true”.

In fact, the advertisers will pay much more for a media that can sell a narrative that isn’t true!

The paramedics were called almost as soon as Floyd was removed from the police car.

In my humble opinion Derek C committed murder. I don't think it was a black on white thing as among the other 3 cops was a black and an Asian-American policeman.

This was sheer violence by Derek C - and he's been booked for it before.

He may have tried this on a white or asian or hispanic or whatever dude and gotten away with it if it wasn't caught on camera

But he boldly went ahead and did this and has brought hell down on the police -- this man, Derek, was at fault, not the good cops who are there.

Apparently making the complaint match the truth isn’t enough of a reason to amend it. I’ll bet adding something that’d be harmful to the defendant would get an immediate response though.

Floyd probably died of an OD not from Chauvin. If the chokehold did play a role in killing him it would be at most a supporting role with his health and the drug cocktail being the primary cause since a normal person would not usually die simply from being held on the ground 8mins.

AP says the prosecution has been aware of the error since June 4th. So they got an extra two weeks to hype their efforts to pollute the jury pool.

Well, we’ll have to let the jury decide.

BUT Pelosi and her merry band of moralists knelt for 8 minutes. Pelosi herself stayerd down for nearly another 30 seconds. We will never get that minute back.

on that we are in agreement. Best to let the jury decide - I just wonder how they could get people who aren’t prejudiced by this to be on a jury

It is always wise to collect all evidencr before proclaiming someone a murderer.

Very efficient murder by knee.

He shaved a minute off the expected murder time.

He went a knee to far.

Now all of the slaves on the Dem Plantation are taking a knee.

Come to think of it, they were actually taking a knee just like George Floyds murderer did at a very early date. Its all about taking a knee you see. And no good will come of it.

Patriots will never kneel before anyone” I’ll be damned if I Strike” ( the colors). Ask John Paul Jones. And that’s in our blood.

I believe you are correct in your assessment.

I do not think the neck pressure....and yes I know it’s not a chokehold....killed Floyd.

But it probably contributed to his death what with drugs and booze in his system.

It doesn’t matter. The guy kept saying he couldn’t breathe and evidently, go with me here, he was telling the truth.

George Floyd should still be alive.

Although I don’t believe it was a black and white thing. Whatever that cop was thinking holding down his neck, he’d have done the same thing to a white guy.

So goes my opinion.

Abraham Lincoln To Harriet Beecher Stowe:

"So you are the little lady who started this great war."

A civilized society to George Floyd:

So you are the drug-addled, armed and violent home invader, convicted thief, 5-time recidivist, counterfeiter, "martyr" who started this new cultural revolution.

I believe that if it is fair to cite the officer's alleged history of misfeasance, even though in a trial it is not, it is also appropriate to cite the criminal record of the deceased.

George Floyd’s background is irrelevant to this case. The cops didn’t come for his past, they came for his allegedly passing a forged note. Instead of running away, he waited. Derek Chauvin then murdered him.

Derek Chauvin’s past is relevant not for this case, but for why the police force didn’t get Derek some help before this - or suspend him or put him in a job where he didn’t have to interact with people too much.
