Mark Levin rips the media for not reporting on Rayshard Brooks's criminal past
Washington Times ^ | June 18, 2020 | Dominick Mastrangelo

Posted on 06/18/2020 11:27:14 AM PDT by Presbyterian Reporter

Conservative pundit Mark Levin asked why many media outlets have not reported on the background of Rayshard Brooks, a black man who was killed by police in Atlanta last week.

"So far, people in my business, broadcasting, have barely said a thing about it," Levin said on his program Wednesday. "These websites and these news outlets, all but a handful, they don't even tell us who Rayshard Brooks is, we know nothing about Rayshard Brooks except for what the lawyers for the family and the prosecutors say."

Levin cited a story revealing more about Brooks's past encounters with law enforcement in the Daily Mail, which he called "hardly a conservative paper."

The Daily Mail report says that at the time of his death, Brooks was on probation for four crimes and could have been sent back to prison if he was arrested on DUI charges.

"I feel like it should be offered, you know, to certainly, I mean, every individual who has been through these things to be assigned to a certain person to help guide, you know," he said of assistance when returning to society. "I mean that's what probation ... but probation is not there with you every day, like a mentor or something."

"Could this be why ..." Levin asked. "When the officers tried to handcuff him he turned physical?"

CNN host Van Jones also issued an op-ed Thursday, which says, "For a person on probation, as Brooks was, any contact with a police officer — for any reason — means an almost certain return to the horrors of a jail cell. It is safe to assume that Brooks did not want to go back to jail over sleeping in his car or failing a sobriety test, lose everything he had and be forced to start his life over again."

Atlanta police on Friday were called to the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in the city because of a report of a man who had passed out in the establishment's drive-thru. The officers, Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan, said when they arrived on the scene they suspected Brooks had been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Footage taken from the officer's body cameras shows Rolfe administering Brooks a breathalyzer test, which he failed. When Rolfe attempted to take Brooks into custody he resisted, and a struggle between the three men ensued.

Brooks is seen in a separate video, taken by bystanders, taking a taser off of one of the officer's belts and running away. At one point, Brooks turns around as officers chase him and fires the taser in their direction. Rolfe then fired his gun at Brooks, hitting him in the back twice and killing him.

On Wednesday, Fulton County prosecutors announced felony murder and 10 other charges against Rolfe, and an aggravated assault charge against Brosnan.

Per Georgia law, the cases against the two officers will go to a grand jury, which Levin said should consider Brooks's criminal history even if it is not widely reported by media outlets.

"The New York Times could have revealed it, the Washington Post could have revealed it ... they're just gonna sit down, write what the prosecutor says and regurgitate it," Levin said.

I agree with Levin.

Levin asks why NYT and WAPO have ignored Rayshard Brooks past criminal history.

I want to know why FOX has been silent for nearly a week.

Is this the new kind of media censorship?

Is this the new kind of media censorship?

Not new, they execute bias by omission of material facts all the time.

It is very important to know this info since it also can lead the officers to treat him differently than they would to a 90 year old woman with no criminal history who just fell asleep in the car.

So all this crap of he got shot in the back or could the officers let him just go home is pure B/S

The dead give-away regarding Brooks criminal record is that we DIDN’T hear, “Rayshard Brooks, a black father of three, asleep in his car and shot in the back, murdered by cops, DID NOT HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD OR ANY PREVIOUS DUI CHARGES.”

How many Americans will ever hear what Levin says?

Will he be Interviewed on any of the Network Morning Shows of be featured on the Nightly News Broadcasts?

Heck, why doesn’t Tucker Carlson have him on? He is getting a bigger Audience every day.

Maybe he should make these comments as he introduces POTUS Trump at the next Rally.

Other than that it’s just some Candy for those of us living inside our Conservative Bubble.

Whatever doesn’t fit the “agenda” is NOT gonna be reported.
They’re nothing but DS tools these days.
That’s why they’re called fake news.

should consider Brooks’s criminal history even if it is not widely reported by media outlets.

Mark: whom is going to admit that to the GJ? Surely not the prosecutor. The GJ is a star chamber one sided event.
Worse, they just need a majority vote and in Atlanta that is virtually guaranteed. First order of business is for the defense to get this out to a different county forthwith once the indictment is returned.

I am goign to buy a Tazer....

Apparently they are not deadly weapons and shouldn’t be considered deadly weapons at all...

Like a “super soaker”...harmless fun that no officer would be justified in using deadly force against...

I will keep it on me and if I manage to run into a leftist politician on the street, well... It is fun time...

They cannot charge me with attempted murder or murder because if an officer cannot use deadly force against one...

Most they can hope to charge me with is a simple misdemeanor...

RIIIGHT??????

( Not really, the above is hypothetical using leftist logic )

“...I want to know why FOX has been silent for nearly a week....”

It seems like FOX works real hard at NOT taking a position on issues (with a couple of exceptions) deliberately. Many of the hosts are programmed to always use their guests to make statements. As we know, the left-leaning management is a big influence on this as well.

Yes, FOX has not done a real good job for a while on the insane stuff that is going on...they could be a real force in putting this all out in front of the REAL American public.

I wonder why the media makes this their business in the first place, and why we are so irritated by it. These are all isolated incidents, but nearly everyone seems to think the world is on fire.

I was very surprised to hear about this guy’s criminal record. One of them was something called “felony abuse of a child”, which sounds pretty horrible.

And it would seem that Brooks’ run from the police was because he is on probation and didn’t tell the authorities that he had moved and an arrest would send him back to jail.

Also, the other cop is NOT going to testify against the cop who shot the gun....they were announcing that he would all over the place.

Finally, the other cop got a concussion in the scuffle with Brooks so right at the start Brooks was attacking the cops.

I felt so sorry for this wonderful guy Brooks, who only fell asleep in his car and did nothing wrong....ever.

A little dose of reality based on long life experience. Very often a criminal type, even the most violent psychopaths, approach you as the most friendly considerate people on Earth until they are confronted or they get you in a vulnerable position. I bet many of you reading this have had that experience in life.

When these leftist governors release these so called non-violent prisoners, they need to instruct them that if every confronted by a LEO they have a duty and obligation to disclose immediately that they have been released from jail due to COVID-19. At least the Leos can then protect themselves.

Good advice about "friendly" people in potentially adversarial settings.

I was pleased to see that prior to the attempted arrest when still in the interview process and the suspect had both hands at chest level while facing the officer, the officer was right there with him with both of his hands also at chest level.

America 1960: Soldiers are hero’s.

America 1970: Soldiers are baby killers.

America 1990: Academics declare no one ever called soldiers a baby killer or spat on them at airports.

This country goes from one extreme to the next, creates the narrative on the go and even creates science and rewrites the facts of history to fit the desired mood of the times.

Right now, our fearless moral “leaders” sense that the the masses distrust law enforcement and see something wrong, so always jumping in front of the masses and leading by echoing the mob loudest, they will sacrifice a few cops to show how much thy support the cause. But don’t worry, when the trend goes the other way, they will be out front of that and support our police then, maybe next month or year. LOL

Wow! The whole thing makes more sense now. He panicked, but was still drunk and had diminished capacity. The cops knew who he was. They would get him later. Running would only make it worse, but under the influence he fought ran and was shot.
