Brooks Shooting: The Political Prosecutor Caves In to the Mob. Capital murder charges conform to the slanderous anti-cop narrative, not the facts in this case.
National Review ^ | June 18, 2020 | Andrew C. McCarthy

If you broadcast that you are willing to be bullied, then you invite the mob to rule. When the mob rules, you get brass-knuckles politics, not justice.

You get a hyper-political county prosecutor, under the corruption microscope as he desperately seeks reelection, filing trumped-up, mob-driven charges before the actual investigators have a chance to finish their work.

You get a capital murder charge against a police officer who returned fire after being shot at with a taser by a fleeing suspect.

A taser that the fleeing suspect, a criminal with a violent history, stole from the police while they attempted to arrest him on a well-founded charge.

A taser being the very weapon that the same prosecutor, just days earlier, had deemed a deadly weapon under Georgia State law. But of course, that was then, when the same prosecutor was addressing the use of tasers by police. This is now, when a criminal used a stolen taser on police. In mob-stricken Atlanta, the prosecutor says the latter use of deadly force is no threat at all.

McCarthy does not always side with the police -- he thought a 3rd degree murder charge against Chauvin (who killed Floyd) was reasonable. Here he is furious with a grandstanding prosecutor.

And when it’s “not guilty” or a hung jury, all hell will break loose (again).

The prosecutor overcharged, but may get a conviction in this environment.

After hearing the prosecutor’s press conference the other day, he essentially guaranteed a change of venue for the trial. It will be much more difficult for the prosecution to get a guilty plea in other areas of Georgia. He has clearly violated several legal standards in his handling of this case and should be facing an investigation by the Bar.

This DA is corrupt as the day is long. He’s being investigated on sexual issues and campaign donations.

The fool needs to be removed from office.

In my mind he should be facing a charge of attempted murder.

“This DA is corrupt as the day is long. He’s being investigated...”

This is another reason I don’t live in a state that offers the death penalty. I’d hate to be falsely accused of murder and then be axed by the State.

Okay, dump on me, I live in Minneapolis, MN. Ilhan Omar is my US Congressman. An editorial in the paper said that when I don’t wear a mask, I am putting a bullet in a gun, spinning it and pulling the trigger. I guess I am attempting to murder the poor sap. The freaking newspaper published this crap.

No he shouldn’t be charged with anything. The Atlanta police dept trains them to shoot if a perp gets any of their weapons. Baton, taser or him.

Ive seen the videos. Both of what Mr. Brooks did and what that corrupt prosecutor said happened.

Two completely different worlds.

Similar with Chauvin. The overcharging is egregious and set to get the approval of the Mob. When both officers get off due to the actions not conforming to the charges the insurrection will go into hyperdrive and Democrat cities will be burned again. In Atlanta one could call it the resurrection of the ghost of William Temcumseh Sherman.

With or without that training it looks rather like self defense to me. If the officer had got knocked down by a taser his gun might well have been the next grab. If the perp had got the officer's gun and shot the disabled officer and killed the tased officer then been killed by the second officer, would the second officer now be charged with murderand "felony murder" of the first officer?

I totally agree. It was a justified shooting. Bad decisions can lead to bad endings.

Attempted murder is when the victim does not die.

Not the cop the prosecutor. He is basic lyrics calling for the death of the cop. Without an investigation. Plus he is able to carry through on his threat.

The perp made bad decisions and had a bad ending. Yeh the DA is under investigation for sex assault and I think embezzlement. A real POS!

He didn't cave to the mob... he's a member of the mob.

The “prosecutor” didn’t “cave” into the mob. That’s who he is, a white cop hater. Nothing more, nothing less, and soon to be sanctioned for unethical behavior (many charges available), possibly disbarred), and jailed for criminal felonies.

When the “worm turns”, it can be the size of a “Dune Worm”. You can run but you can’t hide, Mr. DA (Duck’s Ass).
