A great-grandson of Aunt Jemima says that his family legacy will be erased now that Quaker Foods plans to eliminate the Aunt Jemima brand of pancake mix and syrup.
This is an injustice for me and my family. This is part of my history, sir, said Larnell Evans Sr. to Patch.com. The racism they talk about, using images from slavery, that comes from the other side white people.
The great-grandson went on to say that it hurts to know that Quaker Foods answer to current events in America is to erase my great-grandmothers history.
Evans, a 66-year-old Marine Corps veteran, is the great-grandson of Anna Short Harrington, who portrayed Aunt Jemima after the death of Nancy Green the first Aunt Jemima who made her debut at Chicagos Worlds Fair in 1893.
Harrington was born on a South Carolina plantation where her family worked as sharecroppers and was later discovered in 1935 by a Quaker Oats representative at the New York State Fair while serving pancakes, reports Patch.com.
The report added that Harrington later became a national celebrity as her likeness was seen on products and ads while she traveled the country serving pancakes dressed as Aunt Jemima.

” The racism they talk about, using images from slavery, that comes from the other side white people. “
He nailed it.
What a shame we have come to this in America.
I don’t understand why the Left insists that blacks be featured in TV commercials, magazine ads, TV shows, and movies but absolutely do not want blacks on supermarket product packaging. Aunt Jemima? Uncle Ben? Where is the racism?
Well that’s another item off my shopping list. I think I will save the front of my last box and frame it.
The image on the Uncle Ben’s box is actually quite dignified. In 2020 nobody thinks in terms of railroad porters or Stepin Fetchits.
Only certain Black Lives Matter: The ones that are dead for decades don’t. The ones that are still alive, and can vote and donate their hard earned cash to them, do................
I don't even know what that means. It sounds to me like he's accusing white people of being racists, though.
Just wait, they’ll go after PEANUT BUTTER next.....................
The racism they talk about, using images from slavery, that comes from the other side white people.
This whole damned inquisition is being ramrodded by white liberal elites. Blacks are the pawns, the cannon fodder in this latest attempt to destroy the nation and its history.
The leftist elite figures they have a critical mass of useful idiots to succeed this time.
Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben were good cooks and somehow that’s bad?
What? Ipecac?
“I dont understand why the Left insists that blacks be featured in TV commercials, magazine ads, TV shows, and movies but absolutely do not want blacks on supermarket product packaging. Aunt Jemima? Uncle Ben? Where is the racism?”
No more million dollar paydays for the black athletes that use their images to sell footwear.
Best not mess with my Stubbs!!!
About the only way he can save it all is to start a “Save Aunt Jemima” organization. Along with a petition, it needs a biographical sketch, family photos and stories from not just her life, but the lives of her descent.
Is he still alive?....................
If they want to remove offensive black images, they should look at black rappers and comedians (Snoop Dogg, Wendy Williams, Steve Harvey, Blac Chyna). Many of them seem more degrading than any images of yore.
You’re killing me Larry!
No, he’s saying that the screaming about imaginary racism and the wish to have all non-political black images erased from public view is coming from whites, not from blacks.
