Yes, the 'lone wolf' record is not good, even granted that for obvious reasons lone wolf attacks are particularly difficult to predict and forestall. But against that should be set the pretty impressive record of the security services in uncovering cells, so that since the first attack - the London Tube bombings of 2005 - there have been only three more 'successful' attacks (ie resulting in fatalities) which were planned and/or executed by more than one terrorist.

Now that the pandemic has made us all armchair experts in mortality statistics, it's possible to get some perspective on the scale of Islamic terrorism in the UK. The total number killed is 95. This is about 0.3% of the 3000+ killed by IRA and other Irish terrorism in the 1970s/90s, about 1.5% of those killed by accidental drowning, and about 3 times those killed by lightning strikes.

I mention this only because the impression is sometimes given here that Islamic terrorism is virtually a weekly occurrence in the UK. Of course one death is too many.

Correction: the Islam/IRA etc figure should of course be 3%, not 0.3%.

The large scale mass grooming and rape of British children by muslim gangs is I would say a far more serious problem than the very occasional terrorist attack because of the sheer numbers of victims involved.
