Pentagon Will Deploy 4,000 Troops to Southern Border, Starting in October

The Pentagon will put up to 4,000 troops at the U.S. southern border with Mexico from this October through September 2021, a move that will decrease the overall number of troops there (20%) while extending the mission another year.

“Secretary [Mark] Esper has approved a request for assistance from the Department of Homeland Security and authorized the deployment of up to 4,000 DOD personnel to the southern border,” Pentagon spokesman Army Lieutenant Colonel Christian Mitchell said Thursday.

As of late April, the total number of U.S. military forces deployed to the border was about 5,000, according to the U.S. Northern Command. The military is running more than 200 mobile surveillance sites along the southern U.S. border, in addition to assisting U.S. Border Patrol agents with logistics and transportation.

“Military personnel will not directly participate in civilian law enforcement activities,” Mitchell said, adding that the bulk of the troops deployed would be National Guard members rather than active-duty troops.

The Military support mission to the border has officially been extended another year.

For several reasons, they are going to need fewer Military troops.

1. Mexico now has 20,000 new troops stopping migrants on their side.

2. The logistics support that the Military was providing for the overflow of migrants in detention is no longer needed, as flows are down almost 90% - and the Supreme Court just gave the Administration to quickly deport any future throngs that try to falsely exploit the asylum loophole, which brought those "caravans" of would be migrants.

3. The Military has been providing Mobile surveillance teams to cover gaps, but those gaps are getting closed by new Wall System, and the Border Patrol is getting their own Mobile Surveillance Systems (MSS). MSS is one of the large technology programs that are now rapidly rolling out, this year and next. By the end of next year, Border Patrol should have their own full organic capability for this mission.

Bottom Line: Despite 20% fewer troops, they will likely get a bit more actual border coverage from them, as these other detractors decline.

Sounds like they will continue the concertina crews, following behind the contractors on delivered segments of new bollards, upgrading the them with triple roll concertina.

[ Pentagon Will Deploy 4,000 Troops to Southern Border, Starting in October ]

Uh oh, Democrats won’t like President Trump protecting America and Americans from illegal invaders.

Nor will the Boosh-loving New World Order Globalists.

Partner, We are so glad that the U.S. Military is going to stay in October and November.

In the 2018 Congressional election there was a lot of illegal voting going on in El Paso since they told me that the flow of cars into Mexico slowed down around 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Keep up the great work on that Southern Border Wall.

Correct me if I have anything wrong. Federal money going to the building of the wall provides workers mancamps or housing subsidies while there.

If they are there some x majority of the time they can declare AZ as residence for the 2020 tax year. They can also register to vote in AZ. AZ has one of the lowest state unemployment rates at 8.9%. So they could be including wall contractors in various AZ statistics.

As a bonus Mc Sally may get some votes from wall guys.

The Border has had our own MSS for close to a decade. Currently the Army is running some of those trucks in my AOR so that agents can be on the line. Some of the more strategicly important trucks are still maned by Border Patrol Agents.

The Military also run EIT sites and also work some of the cameras in the radio room. The extra man power is a big help as it allows agents to get on the line. We probably would not need as much support from the military if they would stop allowing agents to detail out to other agencies.

Military personnel are fortunate if they are given live ammo to carry into combat.

While that is an exaggeration, it also is not as far from the sick, sad reality as you would like to think.

“The Border has had our own MSS for close to a decade.”

You are getting a hundred more, between this year and next. They will be upgraded new ones - state of the art.

Like the barrier, this Administration gives the Border Patrol what they want - the best available.

The article seemed to indicate that the MSS mission handover was a major reason for the reduction in Military troops. That made sense to me, but I don’t have direct knowledge.

It makes sense also, that they would backward plan from inauguration day, 2021, in case Democrats took the White House, to make sure that Border Patrol was ready with the full capability needed - because we all know that the next Democrat President will withdraw the Military support right away.

The Administration developed a Comprehensive Plan for Full Operational Control of the Southern Border. It addresses the total package of Infrastructure (Barrier, Roads), Technology and People needed. I have been tracking the wall and technology contracts, but one thing that I have not heard, is how things are going for staffing up Border Patrol.

Are new positions being created and filled?

I have no feel for how many potential votes might come from wall workers, but I could see that their interest is on keeping their jobs building wall.

Did you see that Sen McSally flew down to the Border Wall with the President on Air Force One? Always nice to have a spare pilot on board.
