It was prudent when you could extrapolate a 10% mortality rate. Now, with the numbers available, and a very questionable mortality rate of .6% it just doesn't make sense, unless it's not about health but about control.

I agree with that. The flu is 0.1% in a bad year, can be more with certain flues but those spread less. In our worst COVID situation, NYC, the mortality was 0.25% of the population as a whole, with 25% exposed according to random antibody tests. That's 1% mortality from exposure, but with collapsed hosptals like Elmhurst basically killing everyone who walked in the door.

Under more normal circumstances the mortality should be about 1/2 of that or about 0.5%. Obviously makes no sense to shut the economy down. Just protect the vulnerable and let everyone else be as cautious as they want to be or need to be. I would recommend masks for everyone but you see that as an over-reaction.

I guess your claim is that alliowing or promoting or requiring a mask as an over-reaction paves the way for the over reaction of closures. I don't see it that way. I see it as the opposite: masks help keep the economy open.

Stops droplets not viruses. The chain link fence analogy doesn't apply to droplets which are 100 microns and up:

So if you wear one, you are safe if I don't. Where's the problem, other than forcong compliance to a questionable procedure?

I read through the article that was linked. No mention of dose at all. No mention of how many particles are in smaller droplets (for which a mask is ineffective) versus larger droplets (for which a mask is effective).

So if you wear one, you are safe if I don't.

No, not as safe. The article you linked didn't talk about that either. It contains no relevant information.

No, not as safe.

For sake of argument, say OK, a mask helps prevent the spread.

It's not the Black Death - it's a virus infection that has to make the rounds and peter out. Like other viruses, it take out the weakest and then innoculates the 99.6% that remain. Attempting to slow its spread is like shoveling against the tide.

“...because people who are hard of hearing read lips.”

Exactly - so it is the non-deaf people that should not wear masks.

Inslee is an idiot. When he gave the order for EVERYONE to wear a mask, I bet an aid came over (the same one that hired the sign language person for EVERY speech) said “But what about deaf people??”

“Ok - deaf people don’t need to wear a mask!”

I agree with that. Large scale mask wearing means it takes longer to adapt to the virus. The adaptation will eventually allow the travel and leisure industries to recover. People have to be willing to travel regardless of whether the government regulates it.
