School Choice: Trump v. Biden
Townhall.com ^ | June 27, 2020 | Chris Talgo

On January 22, 2020, Joe Biden tweeted: “When we divert public funds to private schools, we undermine the entire public education system. We’ve got to prioritize investing in our public schools, so every kid in America gets a fair shot. That’s why I oppose vouchers.”

On June 16, 2020, President Trump said, “We’re fighting for school choice, which really is the civil rights of all time in this country … Frankly, school choice is the civil rights statement of the year, of the decade, and probably beyond, because all children have to have access to quality education.”

“A child’s ZIP Code in America should never determine their future, and that’s what was happening. So we’re very, very strong on school choice,” Trump continued.

Could the two candidates be further apart on the crucial topic of school choice? I think not.

So, where does the American public stand on this huge issue? Well, according to a plethora of polling, Americans of all races, political persuasions, and socio-economic status overwhelmingly support school choice.

In other words, on the monumental subject of school choice, President Trump is right in line with mainstream America, while Joe Biden teeters on the fringe. Of course, the media remains silent as a mime on this.

Yet, despite the lack of media attention on this critical issue, the two candidates hold polar opposite views that should receive scrutiny. Why? Because the utter lack of school choice for most American families is producing dire consequences.

Because Dems want the private schools to themselves and everyone else gets sent to the union shops.

This is the issue I'd like to see President Trump drive home.

EVERYbody knows government run schools suck. That's why so many politicians send their kids to private schools.

All DemonRats are functionally ignorant and always hide the truth. If money is removed from Public Indoctrination Centers at the same proportion as the number of students drop, then incrementally it should have no material effect on the Public School per student funding.

Of course they will need to reduce DemonRat Indoctrinators, and, heaven forbid, reduce centralized bureaucrats. They might not need expensive new bond issues.

At FR, we know what the real rat issues are, and those are losing control of Indoctrination while at the same time reducing Rat politician kickbacks. Third issue is DemonRats, as always, are not willing to let Blacks succeed.

I couldn’t disagree more. Why should I work hard and pay more in taxes for ghetto kids to come to my school?
Or am I interpreting this incorrectly?

LIFE choice: Trump and our Free Constitutional Republic vs. Biden and the Tyranny of the Left and the DNC.

It's too bad someone can't take a survey of all those people rioting and tearing down statues.

It stands to reason that the vast majority of them are or were educated in government run schools.

Of course the Fake News Media (and even some FReepers [and you know who you are]) would find one or two rioters who went to private schools and say, "See? See? You're wrong!". And nothing gets fixed.

It's the same mentality behind forcing us to wear masks. EVERYbody knows and admits that the number and percentage of people who contract the severe form of covid are way, way, way lower than the mild or asymptomatic cases but there's always one or two FReepers who "personally" know someone whose aunt's sister's boss's dog groomer died from covid so we all have to wear masks. You can't talk sense into these people.

Socialist indoctrination and ignorance versus traditional American education.

As a homeowner, I’m damn tired of paying school taxes now that my kid is long grown. Renters pay no school taxes to fund public schools - and they are the demographic with school age kids.

Landlords pass on their taxes you say? Bull. Apartment complexes don’t pay that levy here in Washington.

Privatize all schools, let parents pay for their child’s education, and stop paying huge administration costs for terrible indoctrination centers. We are a capitalist, market economy that uses socialist based teaching - what could go wrong?

When I retire, I will pay for school taxes until I die, on a fixed income. That’s not fair to seniors, we paid our dues in this regard.

In reality, ghetto schools tend to spend MORE money, not less money, per student than most high-performing public schools. They spend far more money per student than almost all private schools except the most exclusive. Yet they get almost universally terrible results. Part of that arises from bad parents, part from corruption, part from low expectations, part from intense negative peer pressure.

And most state school funding formulae take money from you and your school district and give it to the ghetto school so that the nonperforming ghetto school can spend all that money. Your school district may contain both high-spending ghetto schools and low-spending good schools. Both sides pay the same taxes, but an attendance zone, enforced with various degrees of strictness from district to district and state to state, prevents students from switching from one side to the other without switching home addresses.

So, you ultimately may find yourself paying LESS in taxes, not more, for ghetto kids to come to your relatively low-spending school. If your local school has a good policy of returning chronically or violently misbehaving students (most of whom lack parents who care enough to transfer their children) back to their proper schools of assignment, then your school may get the best of the ghetto kids, who may thrive in their new social environment with its high expectations and intolerance for violence.

The Republican Party is failing to prioritize the privatization of education.

Every parent should be able to send their sons and daughters to private schools.

There needs to be a refundable tax credit, in the full amount of the cost of a good private school, to make that happen.

It would cost taxpayers less than the public school government indoctrination camps do.

It would also revitalize the country culturally.

I care way less about the money, and way more about children I care about being around ghetto bastards.

Thank you for your detailed post.

Personally, I think those who send their kids to a private school or homeschool should be given the option of paying public school property taxes.

Vouchers are better than the State Indoctrination Camps we have now. However with the state controlling the purse strings you still have state control. The best and ultimate solution is Separation of School and State.

If parents have to pay directly for their kids education they are going to make sure they get the most value both from the school and the kids!

I am also of the belief if you don’t have kids or are a senior citizen, school taxes should be optional.

I know I will sound like a liberal here, but doesn't everyone benefit from a good school system?
