Speaking for myself, I rarely answer the phone if I don’t know who is calling.

Experience has taught me, that 99+% of the time an unknown number is calling, the call is from someone I don’t want to talk to.

And I expect that if it is important, whoever is calling will leave a message and I will call back at my convenience.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who prefers to let unknown calls go to voice mail. I don’t want to talk to telemarketers, or someone pretending to be from the IRS.

“I am from the FBI. We are looking for white nationalist extremist terrorists. Please help our nationwide search.”

Same here. That also my policy when it comes to answering my door.

We keep a land phone with answering machine so that we can return calls to those whom we want to respond to. Our cells are for our convenience only and we do not give the number to many others. This arrangement has been positive for us and I would not be surprised to learn that many other people have a similar arrangement. A lot of consequences can follow when answering the phone without knowing the source.
