LIVING PRAYER

Brother Lawrence was a monk who lived almost 300 years ago and worked in the galley of his monastery. He wrote a book, The Practice of the Presence of God, which today is considered a classic in the area of Christian devotion. Brother Lawrence spent much of his time in the monastery scullery scrubbing pots and pans. He also had a collateral duty as the monastery cobbler. In these jobs, he said, he learned to glorify God in simple tasks and to pray with his hands.

By bringing to each small job the best of his ability, he developed the practice of living prayer. Whether he was bustling around the galley, repairing shoes or kneeling in prayer, he learned to grow spiritually as well as mentally and to cultivate a never-ending, ever-deepening sense of God's presence.

Each day you do hundreds of small tasks. Perhaps you feel at times unrecognized or unnoticed, or that your job is insignificant in the great scope of things. The fact is it doesn't matter what you do or what position you hold. What really matters is the spirit in which you work, and how you approach your work.

Brother Lawrence teaches us an important and very wise lesson: Even the simplest tasks, when done to the best of your ability, are important in God's eyes. Whenever you bring to any job the best of yourself, your fullest mind, an honest heart, and a striving for excellence, then your work, no matter what you do, becomes like a living prayer to God.

CAPT Jane F. Vieira, CHC, USN

Redemption’s Hope

Bible in a Year:

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Acts 2:21

The man seemed beyond redemption. His crimes included eight shootings (killing six) and starting nearly 1,500 fires that terrorized New York City in the 1970s. He left letters at his crime scenes taunting the police, and he was eventually apprehended and given consecutive sentences of twenty-five years to life for each murder.

Yet God reached down to this man. Today he is a believer in Christ who spends time daily in the Scriptures, has expressed deep regret to his victims’ families, and continues to pray for them. Although imprisoned for more than four decades, this man who seemed beyond redemption finds hope in God and claims, “My freedom is found in one word: Jesus.”

Scripture tells of another unlikely conversion. Before he met the risen Christ on the road to Damascus, Saul (who later became the apostle Paul) was “breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples” (Acts 9:1). Yet Paul’s heart and life were transformed by Jesus (vv. 17–18), and he became one of the most powerful witnesses for Him in history. The man who once plotted the death of Christians devoted his life to spreading the hope of the gospel.

Redemption is always a miraculous work of God. Some stories are more dramatic, but the underlying truth remains the same: None of us deserve His forgiveness, yet Jesus is a powerful Savior! He “[saves] completely those who come to God through him” (Hebrews 7:25).

By:  James Banks Reflect & Pray

Do you know someone who seems like a “tough case” for redemption? Nothing is too hard for God! Bring that person before Him in prayer.

Dear Jesus, thank You for loving us so much You died to bring us into a relationship with You.

Nice day today. Quite a rainstorm last night. I must have slept through a good part of it. The gullies are clean form that gully washer. Looks like how weather is coming in.

God bless America.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

Good evening, mountainlion, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Glad you are having a nice day. And a good rainstorm is really good. We are having wet streets most every morning for a week, but not enough “rain” to get the rain gauge wet.

We have had a sunny day all day so far...it’s nice.

Stay safe!

Today it rained on and off...so no Blue, no hiking, and no yard sales.

But that’s OK...Penny and I spent a nice day together at home.

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Have you been enveloped by the Sahara sand cloud yet? Some rain to help keep it down? Mudrain?

We have actually had sun the whole day! And I caught about 30 minutes of rays. Nice day.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
