Macron knows that if the Muslim-Left alliance in France got started taking down statues, it would quickly become uncontrollable and the country would wind up in civil war

We know that Macron is a devout "globalist." He even went to far as to say that "nationalism" is not "patriotism" (apparent meaning that love of the EU should supercede the love his countrymen may have for France).
So, if he is against the statue destroyers, is telling us that they are not backed by the globalists?
Or is he telling us that he is changing his mind about globalism?
