Agreed. It’s a large clown car. We can be confident that Russia would never nuke DC. They know that would make us stronger.

La Marseillaise - English lyrics
Arise children of the fatherland
The day of glory has arrived
Against us tyranny's
Bloody standard is raised
Listen to the sound in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers
They are coming into our midst
To cut the throats of your sons and consorts

To arms citizens Form your battalions
March, march
Let impure blood
Water our furrows

What do they want this horde of slaves
Of traitors and conspiratorial kings?
For whom these vile chains
These long-prepared irons?
Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage
What methods must be taken?
It is us they dare plan
To return to the old slavery!

What! These foreign cohorts!
They would make laws in our courts!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would cut down our warrior sons
Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brow would yield under the yoke
The vile despots would have themselves be
The masters of destiny

Tremble, tyrants and traitors
The shame of all good men
Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
Will receive their just reward
Against you we are all soldiers
If they fall, our young heros
France will bear new ones
Ready to join the fight against you

Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors
Bear or hold back your blows
Spare these sad victims
That they regret taking up arms against us
But not these bloody despots
These accomplices of Bouillé
All these tigers who pitilessly
Ripped out their mothers' wombs

We too shall enlist
When our elders' time has come
To add to the list of deeds
Inscribed upon their tombs
We are much less jealous of surviving them
Than of sharing their coffins
We shall have the sublime pride
Of avenging or joining them

Drive on sacred patriotism
Support our avenging arms
Liberty, cherished liberty
Join the struggle with your defenders
Under our flags, let victory
Hurry to your manly tone
So that in death your enemies
See your triumph and our glory!

Because even Macron knows that destroying your history is the path to communism.

Oh, I don't think that is it. It's that the core value of France is being French which means being different for the sake of being different. I have spent some time in France and there is much to admire actually. They make the world's best wine, still, because it is an art, not a science, which is also part of their culinary excellence. Their women are beautiful. Paris used to be one of three or four great cities for just walking around (London, Rome were their competitors). They are imaginative if not entirely practical scientists and engineers. Their language is the clearest in the world because clarity of expression is a key feature of the language - If it's not clear it's not French. They just shouldn't try putting themselves in charge of running the world. No one should, actually, a point our neo-cons need to learn.

Since we Americans can never remember who we are, and don't care that we can't, it is useful to have the French who can and who care deeply about it.

Other than President Trump, which Republicans have stood up to defend America?

This was critical in slowing the Germans down in 1940:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Lille_(1940)

When French troops were well commanded and in a defensible position they fought and fought well.

The problem in 1940 was that the cream of the German Army, hit the weakest part of the French Line, and the poorest quality troops.

Most of the troops at the “hinge” where the Maginot Line ended were reservists, and not well led. Add in poor communication and it was a recipe for disaster.

The French learned a lot of lessons in May of 1940, but by the time they could apply them, it was too late.
