Why Facts Don’t Matter to People
American Institute for Economic Research ^ | June 24, 2020 | Barry Brownstein

Frustrated with COVID-19 restrictions on daily life, a friend said to me, “I just want to know the truth.”

Like many people, my exasperated friend, and others I know, are mesmerized and frightened by daily news reports.

...

The “clear guidance” politicians claim to dispense and “the truth” my friend wants to learn are not rooted in the principles of human flourishing. My friend is waiting for a government official to blow the all-clear whistle. My friend doesn’t want to believe experts are as fallible as he is, and that the prevailing scientific consensus may be false.

...

In North Korea, there is no path forward that doesn’t begin with 100% obedience. There is nothing to be discovered, only edicts to obey. To serve the despot is the only purpose of life for North Koreans.

Andrew Cuomo is a beloved politician, despite having issued “field guidance” sending thousands of nursing home residents to their deaths. Even in May, after news of his disastrous nursing home orders were widely available, his approval rating was at 81%.

Today, voices in opposition to the field guidance of politicians and experts are still being heard. But don’t take this for granted; tolerance for communicating opposing views is shrinking.

A March 2020 poll of Americans with 3,000 respondents showed strong bipartisan support for criminalizing speech. About 70% of those surveyed supported government “restricting people’s ability to say things”

...

Over 70% supported the detention of COVID-19 patients in government facilities. The majority of those surveyed did not change their opinion even when told their views may violate the Constitution.

...

Like North Koreans, many Americans don’t know the natural rights they have and so do not know when their rights are being violated.

In jail snitches are destroyed with greater prejudice than pedos. In free America they are praised... the white liberal near you will point at you being a conservative to murder even if you are not. Covid19 what not will be the rational

It's called, 'The Narrative'.

Cuomo was on Meet the Press this morning.

First he blamed Trump for the rise in covid cases because Trump didn't issue national guidelines and every state was on their own.

A few minutes later Todd asked Cuomo about nursing home deaths and Cuomo said he was just following national guidelines.

Opinions become facts. Facts become opinions. Everyone believes THEY are THE final authority. Everyone believes THEY are THE arbitrator of truth.

'Trust the experts.' 'Believe the science'. What is left out is the personal bias of so-called 'experts' and scientists.

What we're left with is 'my expert can beat-up your expert'.

Author says to substitute what’s in brackets into a quote from Hayek:

‘“To the naive mind that conceives of order only as the product of deliberate arrangement, it may seem absurd that in complex conditions [during a pandemic], order and adaptation to the unknown can be achieved more effectively by decentralizing decisions.” With that simple substitution, we expose a core belief shared by many Americans. They believe centralizing decision-making is effective in unknown, complex conditions and they want their politicians to do something.’

How low, would have been our real Covid 19 death rate? If these granny killing governors had gotten the virus and died in the first week? Instead of them killing the innocent grannies!

FOLLOW THE MONEY...a Medicare patient admitted with a diagnosis of COVID to the hospital nets the hospital an additional 9K reimbursement. When they go to the ICU as they get sicker, an additional 39K!!

If they survive-shoot them off to the nursing home where they might be able to spread the illness to others....rinse repeat.

That uptick at the end might be attributed to every hospital admission getting tested now. If you get a new hip, and not even a sniffle, but get admitted and test positive, you’re a statistic.

Todd, being a total ass kisser for the Dems, of course failed to ask what have been a good follow on question like why Cuomo didn’t take advantage of the 1,000 bed hospital ship anchored off manhattan. Or the equally large field hospital constructed at the Javits Center.

‘Or the equally large field hospital constructed at the Javits Center’

Wikipedia: Andrew M. Murstein
In 2013 he was appointed to the Board of the Javits Center by Governor Andrew Cuomo...

In 2008, Murstein with former baseball player Hank Aaron and former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, both Medallion Financial board members, and former football star and Congressman Jack Kemp, now deceased, formed a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) which raised $230 million to buy a professional sports team...
Later that same year Murstein organized and filed publicly a SPAC focused on the security industry and assembled a board of directors that included former FBI director Louis Freeh and initial head of Homeland Security and former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge...

On November 8, 2010, Medallion Financial Corp., as part of an investment group which includes Richard Petty signed and closed sale on racing assets of one of NASCAR’s great names, Richard Petty Motorsports...
In 2017, Murstein and his partner, NASCAR driver Richard Petty, announced the hiring of their new driver for the 43 car, Darrell “Bubba” Wallace, Jr., who became the first African-American driver to drive regularly in NASCAR’s premier Cup Series in over 40 years.

A great example of how confirmation bias works is the way people react to the President’s tweet, “When the looting starts, the shooting starts” or “There were good people on both sides” regarding his comments on the riots in Charlottesville NC. People that hate him interpret the first as his advocating violence against the looters when, in fact, he was stating that chaos begets violence from people defending their property. The second example is used to show he was supporting white supremacists when, in fact, he was only defending the local residents of Charlottesville that had gotten a permit to protest the removal of their community statue.

There are facts that are also too terrible for most people to accept and they call them conspiracy theories. One of these is the clear scientific evidence that the COVID virus was manipulated by the Chinese to optimize its infectiousness to humans. This fact would change the pandemic from China’s “Chernobyl” to their “Hiroshima” on the world, particularly Italy and the US. Can people handle this truth?
