He was mocking what we call limousine liberals. People with a “cause” (typically wealthy women). But virtually all hif novels have people doing the right thing with their wealth. Oliver Twist does. Hell the Pickwickians are wealthy old men and are very lovable.
No, a LOT of his characters do NOT do "the right thing" at all; quite the opposite. Though I'll grant you, the ending were usually "happy Hollywoodish endings"...where the villains were punished and the good guys won out. All quite unrealistic!
