As long as Biden picks a VP they're happy with, Democrats won't care if he's comatose (in fact, many of them might prefer a VP Kamala Harris or something equally repulsive calling the shots).

On the other hand, the small number of voters who can be convinced to switch parties one way or the other may care, and may resent the fact that the Democrats' VP pick is going to be the de facto President.
