LOS ANGELES - Health officials in Los Angeles County report 1 in 140 people are currently infected with COVID-19, sparking concerns as cases continue to rise.

"Over the course of the coming week, it is estimated that [1 out of 140] will fall to 1 out of 100 or even 1 out of 70 residents of LA county," said Mayor Eric Garcetti.

"We follow the data closely. There's no evidence yet that the protests led to much spread though it's something that Doctor Ferrer has hypothesized, but we haven't seen any conclusive evidence there.

People still can obviously and should exercise their First Amendment rights. This is a critical moment not to let up with that," he said.

I am skeptical...Even if there is some evidence suggesting a lot of protesters got coronavirus at the protests, I am skeptical that Mayor Garcetti would ever mention that evidence...I think he is afraid of making BLM people angry...

Mayor Garcetti is encouraging the protests...How serious is he about slowing down the spread of virus? Not that serious...

George Floyd protests exposed hypocrisy on the part of some public officials...They were warning about people gathering to protest shut down policies...They would not warn people about gathering to protest police brutality...

I once posted a story about a woman who lost her father to coronavirus...She told a reporter that people should not be out there protesting shut down policies...

Since George Floyd protests began, I have not seen a similar story...Somebody, who lost a family member to coronavirus, asks people not to go out and protest police brutality...I think somebody who does that now will be called a "racist"...

Those protests would have probably really spread this thing and led to a lot of deaths if they had done them in nursing homes. Fortunately they didn’t

We really dodged a bullet there. ;)

If you make an assertion against a Democrat, they will say “There is no evidence”.

If you continue to make the assertion against a Democrat, they will say “That’s been debunked”.

The “defund police” mayor just had his health commissioner tell the public that police will enforce the ban on going to the beaches on July 4th!

F***ing hypocrites!!

Of course not.

So it would be safe to say that it’s time to open up busineses and go back to work?

On the other hand, they’re “certain” everybody got it from going to the beach.

This is such BS. When is there going to be a push-back?

My brother,a widower, had a stroke April 23 and is now is a rehab facility in California. He has had to go back to the hospital because of lack of care in the first facility. He has not been able to see his children at all. No one is there for him to ensure he is getting proper care.

He has had to go through this horrible nightmare all by himself!!!!

Good. If one can protest, one should be able to do whatever else he/she/it wants to. Just don't go to church!

Again, Whatever else he/she/it wants to do. Just do it and just don't go to church!

Oh we’re in the conclusive evidence business now? Six foot distancing and school shutdowns would like to have a word.

Of course not. Why would anyone think a contagious disease could be spread at a large mass of closely packed people breathing heavy from the exertion of peacefully burning cities? Just silly talk.

Now sitting alone on dry sand at a beach, THAT'S a known danger zone.

“Mayor Garcetti says no ‘conclusive evidence’ showing protests contributed to rise in COVID-19 cases.”

excellent news! that means all restriction on freedom of assembly, recreation, dining, and worship can be lifted now since there’s no danger ...

And if they were marching in support of the US, Garcetti would say that the majority of new cases of covid were coming from the marchers
