JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — With a stroke of the governor’s pen, Mississippi is retiring the last state flag in the U.S. with the Confederate battle emblem — a symbol that’s widely condemned as racist.

Republican Gov. Tate Reeves on Tuesday signed the historic bill that takes the 126-year-old state flag out of law, immediately removing official status for the banner that has been a source of division for generations.

ImVho, the VOTERS of MS will turn out the governor & a LOT of state legislators, as the flag was OVERWHELMINGLY approved a few years ago by every ethic/racial group in MS & the MAJORITY of VOTERS did NOT want the flag changed again.

Mississippians do NOT “respond well to” blackmail of the sort that the NCAA tried recently.
(I still have family in Marshall County & I’m told that the MS State Chamber of Commerce told the NCAA that IF the NCAA wanted the “flag change bill” to BE SURE to FAIL, to keep “running their mouth”.)

Typical of the LIES, told by the LIARS of the “main-SLIME press”, the “starry cross flag” was voted in by POPULAR REFERNDUM about 20 years ago, that was intended to be PERMANENT.
FWIW, over 60% of A-A voters APPROVED of the “starry cross” flag in the referendum.
(The previous flag had a Magnolia tree on a white background.)

The last time the people got to vote on the flag, in 2002 or 2003, about 65 percent voted to keep the flag the way it was. You can’t expect today’s politicians to allow people to have a say on anything that they can decide on with a pen.

What are they going to say when Mississippi Voters vote down this bill and vote to KEEP the current Mississippi Flag with the Stars and Bars ?

Currently, they've suspended the rule number 40. TIMETABLE FOR PROCESSING LEGISLATION:

" ... That all the deadlines and other provisions imposed by Joint Rule No. 40 are suspended
for the purpose of requesting the drafting, and the introduction, consideration and passage, of a bill entitled ... "

They want to expedite drafting and writing the bill without the normal time delays for a proper debate.
They are hoping that Mississippi voters, who are NOT paying attention to what's really in the bill, will read about "... BUT SHALL INCLUDE THE WORDS "IN GOD WE TRUST" ..." , and vote for the bill's passage, NOT knowing that they are voting to CHANGE THE MISSISSIPPI STATE FLAG.
And there are a lot of people who will rush through reading the item and NOT really read it closely.

The next update will come when the Mississippi Legislatures writes and passes the bill that this bill suspended Rule 40 for.
Then we'll have to wait until after Nov 3, 2020 to see if that bill passes the State-Wide vote.

That does not appear to be an option for Mississippi voters.

There is no option to keep that flag that existed until this afternoon.
