House lawmakers have taken the first steps towards providing a refugee status to certain groups of Hong Kong citizens. During a recent Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, congressmen from both major parties condemned China’s new national security law and claimed it will erode the city’s autonomy.

“This is a battle between democracy and dictatorship, between liberty and tyranny, between freedom and oppression,” said Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas).

Now this can be a good thing.
We (the US) don't directly have a dog in the hunt re: Hong Kong, but we can do something to help the people of Hong Kong.
One caveat is vetting. We don't need CCP plants coming over.
It would be great if those that worked that miracle there can do it here.
Wonderful city, and it makes me sick what is happening.

They’ve got all the old U.K. territories to choose from. They have places to land. Besides, the Chicoms will plant spies among them. We have enough of those.

London’s calling.

Send them there.

America needs a twenty year moratorium on all immigration.

From everywhere.

This is the reason why I haven’t been rosy to the idea.

Maybe with a lot of vetting.

Just no-with all of China’s recent covert and aggressive antics-Wuhan virus, interference in our politics, military aggression, etc-they would likely use the opportunity to fill the refugee status with even more of their spies than we already have in our universities and corporations here-so no, hell no, not now...

Let Britain-or maybe some other former British colony-take them...

Allow immigration of Falun Dafa practitioners as asylum recipients only. Save them from persecution/organ harvesting. Same for underground Christians.

Falun Dafa is merely a meditation and exercise practice, but the CCP treats them as a mortal enemy because they do not believe that the CCP is God. Same for true Christians in China - the new “Catholic” church in China is merely a trap to register believers.

DO NOT import any members of the CCP, and repatriate any who are still here.

No. For one, there are a billion and a half Chinese living under oppression. Refugee status should be reserved for people that the dictator’s police are actively looking for, who we like. Maybe a politician and his family... but again, someone we like. It should be something granted by the State Department essentially by exception.

It should not something that half the planet qualifies for.

We should just offer to help with demolition.

Leave the place looking worse than CHAZ.

We have been infested, and I mean INFESTED with Chi-Na spies and saboteurs since Bush #1 took office. The flood gates opened during the Clinton regime, and Nothing changed until 2016.

We could empty out Hong Kong and we’d definitely be the better for it. Not many, and I mean maybe 5 or ten of them would vote Democrat.

This plays right into China’s hands. China will just pressure the democracy activists and anti-communists to leave. It may even kick them out. It will be a high-class Mariel Boatlift, benefiting the CCP.

Let them stay in Hong Kong and try to preserve the institutions and rights the British gave them.

I am torn here

The one side of me says let them in

They are hard workers

Wealthy

Educated

Overall good people

On the other hand

China could pull a Cuba and empty out their prison cells

Plant spies in the group

Honestly, we don’t need any immigration with a down economy

Of course COVID

We’ve got enough problems of our own without importing more.

Yes, these people know what it means to love freedom and they work hard to be successful. We can use that right now.

When Hong Kong originally reverted to Chinese ownership, Canada took a good number. Vancouver is now the “go-to spot” for the finest Chinese food.

Canada had, and often has requirements:
The parties entering the country bring a significant amount of financial assets into the country.
And educational standards.

It works for them.

Britain has already announced they will take any of them back as actual british citizens. So they would not be “refugees”.

In order for it to work the US would have to allow Hong Kongers to bring their wealth in TAX FREE!!

HK has a flat income tax and NO capital gains tax. If PDJT wants to see the US economy really rocket into space he should propose a tax reform based on the HK tax system.

I’m not a socialist but I’d almost trade the Democrats the HK tax system for single payer NHS type health system.

Grant it. Immediately. Hell, if there was any way I could arrange a population exchange between Hong Kong and any major Left Coast city, I would do it in a heartbeat.
