Pennsylvania Health Department Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine took to Pittsburghs KDKA NewsRadio on Thursday morning to further explain the expanded mask-wearing order she signed on Wednesday.
Levine hit on a number of familiar talking points. She repeated her familiar refrain: my mask protects you and your mask protects me. And she said that the order, which says citizens should wear a face-covering anytime they leave their home and will be around other people unless theyre under the age of two or have a medical or work-related reason not to, is not political. Rather, its meant to help prevent an outburst of coronavirus case counts and hospitalizations that other parts of the country are currently experiencing.
KDKA Radio Morning Show hosts Larry Richert and Kevin Battle also asked how the order could impact youth sports. Baseball and softball leagues across the Keystone State are starting up, as are soccer and other team-oriented activities, including high school sports workouts.
I think that that young people, if theyre going to be within six feet of each other, should be wearing masks, Levine said. We want to protect our young people, etc.
Its worth noting that Health Department spokesman Nate Wardle told PennLive on Wednesday night that the expanded mask-wearing order is not going to be enforced by law enforcement and that no one will face civil or criminal penalties if they do not abide by it.
Instead, Gov. Tom Wolfs administration is leaning on the good sense and cooperative spirit of Pennsylvanians to follow the order on their own to keep things opened up. Lebanon will become the final county to enter Wolfs green phase starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 3.

We want people to wear a mask when they leave their door if theyre in public, Levine said on KDKA. So, if they are on mass transit, if they are walking down the street, and there are other people there, if theyre in a park and there are many people there, we want people to wear masks so the whole community is protected.
We dont want to wait until we start to fill up our hospitals in order to act.
Pa. reported its highest number of daily confirmed coronavirus cases in over a month on Thursday with 832, but according to Spotlight Pa., the percent of tests coming back as positive is dropping and there has not yet been a surge in new hospitalizations. That said, fears persist state and countrywide about what could happen next week as millions of Americans head out to celebrate the July Fourth holiday.
We dont want to have significant mitigation efforts like [another shutdown], and so thats why were taking these incremental steps such as the mask order, Levine said.
maybe he kept the pickle but it’s past it’s use by date.
whatever he’s got “down there” he’s a horror show. and makes an ugly broad.
You wrote “she”, it is a mentally ill “he”.
Exertion in the heat. I honestly have worn them for the indoor public places, mostly because I sweat worse than a pig in the mask. And I have a nose and mouth, not to mention a stinky mask, if I am out there for more than a short time with one on.
Kids masked playing sports si a receipe for health issues....bad enough being in the sun, muzzle their mouths will result in kids passing out.
Kids going to school is part of the unemployment issue. The parents having children away at school most of the time helps the parents have time for work, because with either school at home or homsechooling, you need parental supervision of at least one parent with younger children.
Also think about wearing a mask out in the heat. and all the sweat and need to drink water.
His mom? The Mom he DID NOT place in a nursing home because he knew the risks? But yet he was evidently OK with thousands of other moms dying in nursing homes?
That mom?
I have no idea.
Citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: YOU ARE BEING IMPRISONED BY A SELF-MUTILIATING MADMAN
Neither Wolf nor his sidekick health director have any sensibilites.
This just says POLITICAL and ARRANGED to me...
Both the wolfe and the doctor work as a team..a LIBERAL JACKASS TEAM.
He took care of a lot of nursing home patients and now has his sights set on children. He should be removed.
