I wanted to see the Blackbird

Ooh, yeah. The SR-71. I saw one of it's final flights at the 50th anniversary of The Air Force at Beale AFB in Northern California.

Before it did a low level flyover, it went supersonic at about 70,000 feet. The sonic boom was somewhat disappointing. It sounded like a balloon popping.

But when it did the flyby, the crowd (estimated at about 100,000) was so silent it was eerie. It was AWE-SOME.
