There have been some racial issues recently bubbling up under the surface in Lincoln City. There’s a restaurant called ‘Lil Sambo’s that has attracted attention, I’m surprised that they haven’t changed their name. Then there was another incident in a local liquor store, then a complaint about a diner that shows supposedly racist cartoons on the wall-mounted TV sets.
Sambo’s was an American restaurant chain, started in 1957 by Sam Battistone Sr. and Newell Bohnett in Santa Barbara, California. Though the name was taken from portions of the names of its founders, the chain soon found itself associated with The Story of Little Black Sambo.
Black Sambo is a lovely story, one of my kid’s favs. It’s about a little boy in INDIA who outsmarts some tigers
