Not that the PC crowd cares, but a person must be judged within the context of his/her times. How did the person behave given that condition?
George Washington owned slaves. That was not unusual for the times. And he treated them humanely. George gets a pass.
Simon Legree* owned slaves. Again, that was not usual for the times. But he beat his slaves, and worked them to death. That was evil, and unusual for the times. So no statue for Simon. And if you want to remove one that exists, I wont object.
* I know Simon Legree was a fictional character. Just tryin to make a point.
Oh, and just exactly who was selling the black slaves in Africa? BLACK AFRICANS.
