The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a prosecutor’s demand for President Donald Trump’s tax returns as part of a criminal investigation that includes hush-money payments to women who claim they had affairs with Trump.
The court ruled 7-2 in a case in which it heard arguments by telephone in May because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The records are held by Trump’s longtime accounting firm, Mazars USA, which has said it would comply with a court order.
It probably will be at least several weeks before the court issues a formal judgment that would trigger the turnover of the records.
The court rejected arguments by Trump’s lawyers and the Justice Department that the president is immune from investigation while he holds office or that a prosecutor must show a greater need than normal to obtain the records.
Trump’s two high court appointees, Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, joined the majority.

And the story doesn’t match the ruling. Both cases have to go back to the lower courts where Trump’s defense team can make further arguments to defend.

Next Democratic President we need to find some prosecutor to to gin up a ‘crime’ and then demand to see the Democratic President’s tax return! It does not matter what is claimed to get the records because the ENDS JUSTIFY THE MEANS!

My problem isn’t with the SCOTUS agreeing that the POTUS records, as pertains to a real criminal investigation be re viewable. My problem is that you have to have a legitimate crime investigation to demand tax records. Everything involving Trump has been a politically motivated attack and a constant leak. NOTHING has been a legitimate investigation. The potential future harassment of the POTUS by bogus investigations and fishing expeditions is real.
Honestly, I have watched this play out for 3 years and I am certain that they will find that Trump has complex taxes with a entire accounting group filling them. There probably won’t be that much to see, were upon they will demand more records. I believe Trump has baited the Democrats to chase these records that will ultimately be legal and boring.

Let me guess without reading the complete text of the article — the two Justices who decided FOR Allowing Congress To Get Trump Tax And Financial Records, are the eminently retireable Ruthie and the wise Latina.
Elsewhere they are saying prosecutors CAN get Trump’s tax records.
7-2 decision. To determine whether we lost or won all you need to know is who were the two? They were Thomas and Alito.
Its going back to the lower court and Trump team can make further arguments.
