They take their punishment, make their amends, pay their debt to society, and then they can apply for citizenship, and in 5-7 years they can take the citizenship test and get sworn in. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work?

None of those problems compels the federal government to further reward illegals.
This is a clear desperation play by Trump. He was complaining (correctly) last month about the SCOTUS ruling that he couldn’t end DACA - now he spins around 180 to do more than DACA (which is basically just a temp residency/work permit). Trump is now going to give them citizenship on top of that.
It already started. One side is winning and the other is sitting at home coping about how it’s all 4-D chess that 140 cities are on fire.

People expect him to barrel in there with everyone against him even Lilly lovers on this site and simply clean it up. He at least reslizes how powerful the enemy is. People here don’t seem to.
This is an enormous and complex issue that has been allowed to grow for decades and now you’re talking about tens of millions of people. Nobody is going to talk me into supporting sweeping round ups and mass deportations inside American cities.
Other questions, like enforcing labor laws, and checking SS number usage, and enforcing border crossings etc are all reasonable.

You are right. I had forgotten. There are things Trump says that may sound outrageous, but that’s just ‘Trump the negotiator’ talking.

Trump got a lot of people to self-deport after he was elected. Now he needs to propose enforcing the law as part of a package deal, then let the Democrats block in favor of open borders.

Naw, you’re right. We’re worse than the Chinese. Closer to Hitler if we expect foreign criminals not to enter the country illegally.
And if we don’t give in to the demands for American jobs and welfare, we’re Pol Pot for sure. We have to do everything in out power to make them comfortable and get over those silly ideas about having borders.

I haven’t heard anything from President Trump.
I never said anything about rewarding anyone. But just the question of reforming social welfare alone will be a huge political war on its own.
I don’t read it as a desperation ploy, though it could be some form of pandering. Personally I think Trump understands that people who break the law and get away with it think of the country as a nation of chumps. So how do you earn their respect after tat? By making them make amends for their crime.
To be sure, I don’t know the details of this plan but that is what he campaigned on in 2016 as I recall, and I think it is sensible.

Now you deserve the straw man gif. I specifically said, several times, the question of border enforcement is different from that of people already entrenched in American cities.
