Demoralizing the Police. As cops become objects of derision and scorn, violent crime soars in American cities.
City Journal ^ | July 10, 2020 | Jack Dunphy

Posted on 07/11/2020 3:07:59 AM PDT by karpov

The police officer occupies a distinctive position in American life. Dressed in his uniform and driving his distinctively marked cruiser, he is the most visible symbol of civil government and serves as a reminder that society is governed by rules that citizens are expected to follow. A compact exists between the officer and the government that he serves. The officer does his job in the knowledge that it comes with significant risk to his personal safety; he accepts this risk with the understanding that the government affords him certain protections, especially in cases where he may have to use reasonable or justifiable force.

Following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers—and with the resulting social upheaval—that compact has been now tossed aside. Today, the police officer is an object of derision and scorn, viewed not as a remedy to crime and disorder but as a cause of it—at least to an uninformed but influential minority, which includes members of the government and media. As the police officer endures this reaction, he knows crime and disorder haven’t abated. Indeed, both have increased alarmingly in many places. But now, if the officer uses force to bring a lawbreaker into custody, the legal protections that he once enjoyed will be abrogated, if necessary, to appease that same minority.

How else to explain the speed with which Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe was fired and charged with murder after he shot and killed Rayshard Brooks on June 12? How else to explain why Rolfe’s partner, Devin Brosnan, has been charged with aggravated assault and violation of his oath? After the tumult in Minneapolis and elsewhere, Atlanta’s authorities clearly sacrificed both officers in the hope that their city wouldn’t be looted and burned.

Let's address the elephant in the room:

- many blacks have hated the police for decades because they were the one institution that told them "No!" and held them accountable for their behavior.

Did you ever tell a 4 year old who was hitting their younger sibling "No!" and stop them from harming the baby?

Same reaction.

It’s all part of the RAT revolution. They want the economy to tank so zealous ChiCom virus restrictions and releasing criminals is part of the planned chaos. The sooner Joe Public realizes this deliberate sabotage by the RATs the more of these seditious RATs that be voted out of office.

Maybe doing away with police isn’t such a bad idea?
We can all carry a gun anywhere we want. Who is going to stop us?

Huh, whaddaya know?

Seriously, I’m trying to feel something other than, “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes,” or, “This is what you want; this is what you get.” I almost succeeded for a few minutes yesterday, but then it went away.

Oh, well. Maybe tomorrow.

This movement is the “AIDS” of society, in a very real sense. By removing the body’s defense cells, opportunistic infections take over and eventually kill the host.

That is why RATs want to take your gun, because they fully intend to do things that will make you want to shoot them.

The democrats in cities and in general have given the 13 percent the green light to absolve themselves from any crimes including murder. The laws do not apply to them

Many are willing to become casualties for the cause, as long as white people get hurt.

I’m not sure if you were being sarcastic, but without laws and their enforcement by police, gangs and strongmen will take over neighborhoods, towns, and cities and impose their own order; this will be no libertarian utopia where each man is his own master, but rather a dystopian nightmare. That’s not how reality works.

I fear that when there is a need for Police, the thugs who are now rioting in the streets will be given badges and have the authority to enforce there leftist ideology.
Barry O'Bozo will have his civilian army and they will have all that nice surplus military equipment he gave to local police departments.

The left has always wanted to eliminate local police forces and to replace them with a national police that they can more easily control. They were waiting for an event. It happened. They used the man’s killing to demand elimination of local police forces.

They want a national force that will be “diverse,” in other words, full of incompetents who would not have otherwise qualified. The force will allow specially-privileged minorities to do what they want. The force will monitor and prosecute unacceptable thought and speech. The force will disarm non-violent citizens and leave guns in the hands of violent criminals.

The derision and scorn is totally justified when you have cops harassing businesses, and giving citations if customers are not social distancing.

These cops go around with a tape measure and check to see if people are 6 feet apart. They are pathetic.

No sympathy from me towards these left wing cops who do the bidding of a cross dressing lunatic Health Director.

I’m not entirely sure myself anymore.

Good point. It’s hard to believe this stuff is actually happening. Apparently our wonderful mayor has a new strategy to combat the inevitable crime surge which followed his attacks on our cops: it involves community mentors and basketball. I shit you not.

And the democrats who voted for the politicians who derided the police can now sleep in the bed they made.
