I don’t know any details, but, other than our military is a microcosm of our society; plus Obama deliberately infiltrated our military leadership with leftist dissidents and weaklings, who went about changing codes, rules, and anything else they could sabotage (and STILL ARE), what the heck is going on with our suddenly clumsy, accident-prone Navy?
LA Times says 11 sailors with minor injuries, no deaths reported, all sailors evacuated and accounted for per the Navy spokesman, thank God.

We lost a submarine because some union welder wanted a long weekend.
On another note that’s two carriers that could have opposed the ChiComs that have burned during maintenance this year.

I can tell you from experience, having worked in a shipyard for 20 years, all contracts, civilian and government, normally require 100% of the work in 90% of the time it should take. There are no holidays or weekends in the shipyard. I can also tell you that, if this is a hot work accident, it was totally preventable, and no shipyard performs this work like they should.
Or 60’s! Yikes! Giving my age away. But, yeah, not the Navy i was in.
Any military anywhere is sticklers for fire safety, especially in confined places.
But here we're likely talking about civilian contractors doing maintenance & repairs, so..... maybe not so much?
You got that right. I've been sitting here in disbelief that only two or three small fireboats are dispatched to do anything about a fire in a billion dollar vessel. Where are the big serious firefighting vessels?
Nope. And much of the duty section might have been on the berthing barge you see on the quay wall. Manning duty sections is tough during overhaul. Lot’s of people off going to school, TAD to various “tiger teams”, on leave, etc. Back in the day, we would collapse to fewer duty sections, as you had to support all watch, force protection and damage control team requirements regardless of whatever else you had going on. More recently, some ships have bent to the pressure from above to ensure “quality of life” with 6 or 8 sections. She won’t be launching those f-35’s for quite a while now.
Probably got canned under Obama, or at least the older ones may have been scrapped without replacement. Ships don’t last forever and replacement is required.
Looks like it’s on pier 2.
When my ship (USS PELELIU) was parked on that pier, it sucked. There was no parking close by for cars. We preferred pier 13.
There are members of urban gangs or anti-Americans in all branches of the military services, unfortunately, they enlist for sabotage and to get training for future action.
Reports are that all 200 of the anchor watch on BHR are accounted for with only 11 wounded.
Accidents happen. “Idiot shipyard worker with a torch or welder” is not unique to one nation or another, nor does it prove superiority or inferiority.
No arguments here. Hoping this was an accident though we may never know for certain.

About a decade or so ago, at the opposite end of the country in Kittery, ME, an attack boat was severely damaged, by a worker that set a “small” fire that got out of control.
He wanted to go home early that day.
