Don't they always. As a matter of fact this particular little lie could be used in a lot of places:
"The robbery started peacefully when the robber asked the victim for a cigarette"
"The carjacking started peacefully as the carjacker asked directions..."
"The hijacking started peacefully as the passengers boarded the plane"
“The holocaust started peacefully as Jews boarded the conveniently provided trains...”
