I agree with you. Sadly! I sincerely doubt my wife or I will live to see the country devolve to Venezuela, but my children will. Fortunately two already live and work overseas and one will in the near future. It is the curse of having raised children in the military and dragged them all over the world. They get used to traveling and adapt easily. Another son hated the travel and until his death lived in only one city as an adult.

There was a book which, I cannot find anymore, by two economists who predicted not just the USA, but Europe will devolve back to basically city states. These will be very large city states like the Chicago city state covering territory to include Milwaukee, Rockford and maybe even up to Madison. As society devolves cities and regions will band together to manage resources and protect its citizens. They will enter in separate trade agreements for importing food etc and will at least initially be nominally part of the USA, but they will gradually become autonomous regions. Sounds like they may be right if Biden wins this process will accelerate as more States push back against Feds.
