The police are going to have to stand on one side or the other.
Our side is law and order, living in nonviolent tolerance, respect for law enforcement with proper insurance that they also follow the law, and belief that honoring the US Constitution and keeping America free is worth the effort.
Other side is acceptance of CHOP and other anarchy, sanctuary cities defying federal law, allowing Marxist anti-American BLM (read it’s mission statements and leaders’ quotes) to take over, destruction of homes and buildings out of angry spite,allowing thugs to surround cars and trap drivers and families inside, and supporting deliberate targeting and ambushing of officers to beat and often kill them (several case in past two years alone).
No middle, squishy cowardly Kasich-Bush family style wimp-out allowed. One or the other.

After seeing what happened to Michelle Malkin in Denver where the cops stood there and watched them be assaulted, I have no faith that the police are going to defend anybody who should be defended.
So, a thinking person would ask themself, if they will follow an order to stand down and watch you get assaulted, How likely is it they will follow an order to assault you?
