The 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit about 75 miles south of Chignik in Alaska. Officials have now issued a tsunami warning for South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula, from Kennedy Entrance to Unimak Pass
The US Tsunami Warning System said tsunami activity was predicted to hit within the next hour at points along the Alaskan coast.
It said Sand Point could be hit at 11.15pm local time (8.15am BST), Kodiak at 12.05am (9.05am BST) and Cold Bay at 12.15am (9.15am BST).
I could almost guarantee this will be Trump’s fault by tomorrow evening.
There has been 5.7, 6.1 and some smaller aftershocks..
Prayers for the folks in its path.
I could almost guarantee this will be Trumps fault by tomorrow evening.

Well, he didnt do a damn thing to stop it. Joe Biden would have prevented it by sending Hillary and Kerry to take a deep sea submersible to dive to the depths and stitch the faults firmly together. Maybe they would have taken Corn Pop along to assist. ;-)
Throw in the Paris Climate Accord withdraw and we’ve a salatious story here.
7.8! Whoa!
As sure as the sun rising in the east.
save the whales!
Nope, will never happen. SF is too far away. After the Japanese quake and tsunami, the wave hit San Francisco Bay, it was about an inch high, a mere ripple on the bay. Santa Cruz harbor saw some damage because the wave was forced into a small channel that destroyed some boats. Another thing about SF, it's a city of hills high above the ocean, much of it would be untouched by any high waves.
Washington (AFP) -- A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the Alaskan peninsula, triggering a tsunami warning for areas within 200 miles (300 kilometers) of the epicenter.
The shallow quake hit at 0612 GMT Wednesday about 500 miles southwest of Anchorage, and around 60 miles south-southeast of the remote settlement of Perryville, the US Geological Survey said.
"Based on the preliminary earthquake parameters ... hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 km of the earthquake epicenter," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
Update, 12:30 a.m. Wednesday: A tsunami warning covering a large swath of coastal Alaska prompted by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake off the Alaska Peninsula on Tuesday night was canceled by 12:30 a.m. Wednesday after the officials determined the tsunami was no longer a threat.

Sweet. Thank you.
Within 300km one might get a tsunami.
Then I looked at the scale on that map.
1: Alaska is huge.
2: Maybe some small fishing villages get impacted.
I did a project in Alaska just off of one of the state highways. It was near mile marker 1563 or something crazy!

...THE TSUNAMI WARNING IS CANCELLED...
* The Tsunami Warning is canceled for the coastal areas of
South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula and Aleutian Islands
There are a few very active volcanoes out there. How strong on the Richter scale is not a predictor of severity - The deeper it is the less damage.
7.8 is not all that big compared to the 1964 9.4 in Whittier AK
I slept through it, 11 miles north of Wasilla is where I live, never felt anything.
People have to understand Alaska is more than twice as big as Texas.
Uh, Portland is about 100 miles upriver from the coast. Yeah, the river has tidal effects from the ocean, but don’t expect a wall of water to wash away the city.
Here in Maryland governor hogan has closed our beaches for the publics safety. / sarc
