The 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit about 75 miles south of Chignik in Alaska. Officials have now issued a tsunami warning for South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula, from Kennedy Entrance to Unimak Pass
The US Tsunami Warning System said tsunami activity was predicted to hit within the next hour at points along the Alaskan coast.
It said Sand Point could be hit at 11.15pm local time (8.15am BST), Kodiak at 12.05am (9.05am BST) and Cold Bay at 12.15am (9.15am BST).
Same Here
In
San Diego.
Fairly large aftershocks plus some large quakes a ways off in Canada right now.
Too bad it wasn't offshore from Seattle and/or Portland, or SF. No ping, just adding to the catalog.

Where is this large quake located compared with the “silent gap” in the Aluetion Island chain of islands that has NOT had a major earthquake the last 400 years? One big displacement nearby would appear to add pressure on that zone to trip off as well.
This from several years ago:
“What is the Shumagin Gap?
https://earthquake.alaska.edu/new-perspective-seismic-hazards-shumagin-gap
Between 1938 and 1965, a series of large megathrust earthquakes ruptured almost the entire Aleutian subduction zone, from Prince William Sound all the way past Attu Island in the far western Aleutians. One notable patch of the subduction zone, however, did not rupturethe area roughly between Sand Point and Perryville (see Figure 1). This section became known as the Shumagin Gap, and researchers have spent much effort to understand why that section did not rupture and whether it might be at risk of generating a tsunamigenic earthquake in the near future.”
I could almost guarantee this will be Trumps fault by tomorrow evening.

On which side of the equation?
It didn’t do enough damage or it did too much damage?
That could be bad. :^) We live on an oblate spheroid about 8000 miles in diameter. The deepest known hole is the Marianas Trench, the highest point is Mount Everest, and a mere 65,239 feet is the difference. That's .0015603424% of the Earth's diameter. Doesn't take much to disturb our tiny little lives.
That’s big... prayers for all.

Neither! Well, both!
See, it will be blamed on Global Warming. Which is also’s Trump's Fault.
Yowzers!
Alaska Ping.
Sorry for the late ping, I was at work and didn't have the list handy.
LOL...I think she is through with "Todds".
Very cool! I guess if every one of those feeds spiked dark red all at once it’s time to put our heads between our legs and kiss it goodbye?
I’ve documented a couple of 8’s and this one was close. They ring the entire globe like a bell.
The Alaska Highway ends at Mile 1523, but you have to remember that Mile 0 is in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. The first milepost in Alaska, which is at the US/Canada border, is Mile 1221.
“....Mile 0 is in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.”
Well that ruins my story! This was near Tok, Alaska. Still - wide open country up there. Beautiful.
Very cool thanks!
