WASHINGTON - Differences over how to fight the coronavirus pandemic have sparked infighting and tension within the White House, hampering its response as the death toll mounts and President Donald Trumps approval ratings fall.
Physicians on the White House Coronavirus Task Force, particularly its coordinator, Dr. Deborah Birx, are frustrated that warnings about rising cases are being ignored, and dismayed that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the renowned U.S. infectious disease expert, has been demeaned and disparaged, officials said.
Trump, who is trailing Democrat Joe Biden in opinion polls ahead of the Nov. 3 election in large part because of voter dissatisfaction with the presidents response to the coronavirus, is signaling a shift in strategy.
After months of reluctance to wear a face covering in public, on Monday he tweeted a picture of himself with a mask and said he planned to relaunch regular briefings about the pandemic. At the first such briefing on Tuesday, he encouraged Americans to wear a face covering if they could not keep socially distant.
The decision to restart briefings came after tension between Trumps chief of staff, Mark Meadows, whose team took over leadership of the West Wing in March, and others in the White House, especially Vice President Mike Pences team, about the right strategy for talking to the country about the pandemic.
Meadows sought to curtail task-force briefings, which were moved off the White House grounds and scheduled only infrequently, without participation by the president, in an effort to change the subject as Trump tried to focus on reopening the economy and boosting his re-election campaign.
Trump ended his regular coronavirus briefings in late April after a series of missteps including a suggestion that injecting disinfectant might cure COVID-19.

Jeff has the sads. Poor, poor Jeff.
Sure, Reuters, we believe everything you say.
Except the “death toll” is far lower than it was in April May June and Trumps approval is at 48% on Rasmussen, which is close to the highest its ever been.
Reuters: “We lie 24/7”
Reuters needs to get into the fantasy fiction writing business. They are very good at it.
Clearly there is some infighting. Navarro going after Fauci revealed that.
Video case in point:
Old DNC Jeffy at el reuters a brit commie rag spins more DNC faxes .
There is nothing the left does not own.
Oh, please grow up. He was at a f#cking HOSPITAL, for heavens sake.
Dr. Birx needs to spend more time worrying about the integrity of her data and less time worrying about people saying mean things about Dr. Tony.

AP, Reuters, The Hill, Politico, NYT, WAPO...the list of Democrat driven media is endless.
Other than his blowing it with is Ghislaine Maxwell response and saying “we’re developing a plan” I thought he did a good job. We’ll see if it continues.
Certainly, as there always is...especially in the Trump WH...he thrives on it. Remember the old adage from 2016, Let Trump be Trump. And, just 2016, the media relies on opinion polls that are largely driven by the drivel they print. They have yet to learn, at their peril, that social media is not America.
This morning Fauci is on CNBC whining that he was not invited to the presser. Indeed Trump seems to thrive on this.
Yep. And he’s often in the briefing room for press briefings. First class jerk.
He did a very good job. I have never seen a message that I largely disagreed with delivered so effectively.
