It must irk you no end that, to most of the rest of the world, all Americans are referred to as yankees... Actually its just the Brits who call us "Yanks" and I make sure to point out that though I'm an American, I'm no Yankee. If they persist, I just start calling them Paddies "ehh one of those little islands of the coast of Europe - what's the difference?" They immediately get the point.
