President Trump said Wednesday his administration is sending federal law enforcement officers into Chicago and Albuquerque, expanding his controversial crackdown on what he claims is an unchecked surge of violence in Democratically-run cities.
"Today I am announcing a surge of federal law enforcement into American communities plagued by violent crime,” Trump said in remarks from the East Room of the White House.
He added he had “no choice but to get involved."
Trump said the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would all send agents to Chicago.

For once in my life I’m rooting for the ATF to get involved. They should be paying the Chicago PD to drop dimes every single time they find a felon in possession of a firearm. ATF should instantly file Federal charges and make them stick.

Because of the extremely low conviction rate for even the most heinous crimes in Chicago (even though many convicted persons apparently aren’t actually guilty), I wonder whether many of these gangsters are legally felons, rather than just persons repeatedly committing felonies with impunity until some other gangster shoots them.

Back in the 1990s Bill Clinton actually started enforcing federal gun laws. Felons who committed a crime with a gun was given a 5 year federal sentence and when he was done with that he served his state sentence for whatever crime he committed. Believe it or not, crime dropped significantly. I believe the program started in Richmond following a tidal wave of crime.
I have not heard anything about Albuquerque.
What about Portland?
