Let’s just win this election so we don’t have to worry about this.

Republicans will fill a Supreme Court vacancy this year if they get one. But that could backfire.

They might try. I don't see the 50 votes needed to confirm though.

...in February 2016 [...] McConnell said the people deserved the right to have the court vacancy filled by whoever won the presidential election that November.

And the Dems and their media (including NBC) screamed bloody murder! McConnell may have turned a 180, but so have you NBC!

‘People on both sides of the aisle who are concerned about the future of American democracy should hope, then, that Ginsburg remains on the court until the next president is inaugurated in January‘

Just because you add ‘people on both sides of the aisle’, doesn’t mean that your aren’t biased. The SCOTUS is already contaminated by Leftists power desirers. We need a STRONG CONSERVATIVE on the court to balance all the Leftist toadys. The LAW doesn’t mean ‘whatever the Dems say it means’. Period.

Is she still hospitalized? An honorable person would have stepped down by now. It is not called the Axis of Evil for nothing.

The big difference is that Obama was in his last year of his last term, and thus was leaving office.

Sure it would “backfire” just as it did when McConnell refused to allow Garland to take a seat and elected President Hillary Clinton... oh wait... never mind.

The situation was different for Garland. The Dems had the Presidency. The Repubs had the Senate.

Since we have both....the battle will be the Dems ripping Amy Barrett apart....and you can bet the the three USSC women will suddenly become anti-woman.

The author is an idiot. He should address the backfire to the democrats who voted to drop the filibuster when confirming federal judges.

People never remember. This whole no confirmations in a president uear is none other than THE BIDEN RULE. There right. In order try to protect the liberal court when he was the chair of the judiciary in the senate Biden said he would NOT consider a republican nominee in a year when there was an election when the sitting president would not be running. In other words when there was a split government and a term limited president

So. The Biden rule does not apply as trump is not Term limited. If there is a vacancy before the election it should be taken up. If there is a vacancy after the election and trump is a lame duck who cares. Jam it through. If he is re-elected then it’s his right. This is pretty simple and can be laid entirely at the feet of Biden. But republicans are so scared to play even soft ball I don’t expect hard ball. Just roll over and take it up the rear end.

People on both sides of the aisle who are concerned about the future of American democracy should hope, then, that Ginsburg remains on the court until the next president is inaugurated in January. The alternative is likely to be a constitutional crisis whose results are unlikely to make anyone happy, as the Supreme Court becomes the grounds for an endless cycle of retaliation and counter-retaliation between the parties.

Oh puuuullease!!!!

It is the democrats who have made a mockery out of the Supreme Court and nominee hearings.

Rhetorical question, really, but can anyone name a single democrat appointed justice who got as unfair a treatment as Bork, Thomas and Kavanaugh?

Supreme Court nominations by Republicans have been a one-way world of disdain, lies and political ambitions by the Left for the past 50 years.

It’s not going to happen. Romney, Collins and Murkowski will refuse to confirm any SC nominee this close to an election. Other GOP senators might balk too. Re-elect Trump and hope he doesn’t depend on the Federalist Society for their recommendations anymore - so far they’ve been about as useful as the American Bar Association.

I predict that soon after Trump wins in November, that she will step down.

God will show her all the children’s faces she helped abort before she is thrown in the lake of fire for eternity!! God doesn’t play around when it’s the matter of innocent helpless babies!

They will keep RBG alive until 2021, no matter what... but she will not last 2 more years...

RBG
Breyer

Thomas is still strong
Just the two I think.

The smart Latina may feel like she is useless in the minority and resign... that might be three.
