The delay is likely because the local authorities want to delay any rioting for as long as they can.
> The police were fired upon by Taylor’s boyfriend. <
Right. But the boyfriend claims that the police came barging into the apartment without warning. The boyfriend says he thought it was a home invasion. And it turns out that the boyfriend had a valid gun permit. That doesnt make him honest. But at least we know hes not a convicted felon.

That makes sense. Delay releasing the report until a cold month. Good strategy, but very unfair to Taylors family.
Permit me to add one more thing about Taylors boyfriend. I tend to believe his assertion that the police did not first announce themselves. So he thought it was a home invasion.
He had a valid gun permit. So its a good guess that he had a clean record. And no drugs were found in the apartment. So the boyfriend had no reason to fear a police search.
Why would such a person decide to get into a wild shoot-out with the police? His actions only make sense if the cops didnt announce themselves properly, and so he thought it was a home invasion.
