The German economy suffered a record-breaking economic contraction in the second quarter as measures intended to stymie the coronavirus pandemic shuttered businesses and required consumers to stay home.

The economy shrank at an annualized rate of 34.7 percent in the second quarter, worse than the stunning 32.9 percent decline in the U.S.

There are no statistics to compare it to, but I’m pretty sure our Covid Warriors in Government have destroyed the economy more than even Mao Tse Dong achieved in his “Great Leap Forward” or Cultural Revolution.

Good. And having the payroll and support expenses for 11,000 US troops and their families removed from Germany isn’t going to help.

MAGA!!!

This proves the adage "Figures don't lie, but liars figure."

Take a sharp, short-term trend and "annualize" it. You will get numbers that amount to a catastrophe.

How much of this is real, and how much is "predicted" based on numbers from the last two months?

This is how you take a death toll in the hundreds and extrapolate it into millions, which is exactly what they did, scaring the bejesus out of everyone.

But doom and gloom is the order of the day, when you're trying beat the incumbent and set yourself up as the world's only hope...

Why do you think it’s the job of the US taxpayer to subsidize German defense AND to subsidize the German economy?

Especially when that country’s leadership is working against the interests of the US by buying oil and gas from Russia?

Add to this that Germany and France are leading the effort to make the EU into a nation-state with a military and trade posture that is intentionally viewing the United States as an adversary and not an ally?

So yeah, eff those Germans. I don’t want my money going to help them start up their Fourth Reich.

I never said it was our job to subsidize their defense. It’s high time for the US to pull out and let Germany and the rest of Western Europe sort out their own defense. Germany is full of intelligent and innovative people and I fully expect that they are up to the task.

I am reacting to your apparent delight at the thought of German people suffering under a massive economic contraction. Regular people are suffering and you love it. Oh, and the single lone fringe benefit of the coming Biden landslide is that I won’t have to hear that idiot catchphrase “maga” ever again.

Pardon me but these people elected a government which has been openly hostile to my country, my President, and our economy and our jobs.

Let them face the consequences of their choices.

I feel the same way about the Democrats in Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, and etc. if that makes you feel any better.

And “these people” in America are about to elect Joe Biden in a landslide. “These people” in America already put the most openly radical democrat congress in the lower chamber in 2018.

All Americans suck, and deserve to suffer for this apparently? Auto workers in Kentucky, factory workers in Bavaria, screw them all.

The US media is lying, saying 29.9% for the quarter without saying that there are 4 quarters and that the figure as if it were for the whole year.
Half the American public has no idea what GDP and “annualized” mean.

Considering the number of people I know who voted for Trump once but will not do so again, how engaged the current civil unrest is keeping certain left voting demographics who are typically disengaged (young people for example), and how much room for shenanigans there is with universal mail-in voting — yes.
